Playing Different Positions
When he first joined the team, Jason played as a defensive tackle. This means he played on the defense, trying to stop the other team. Later, he moved to play tight end. A tight end is a player who can block for runs or catch passes.

Starting His Professional Career
Before the NFL Draft
After his junior year, Jason Peters decided to enter the 2004 NFL draft. This meant he would try to join a professional NFL team. Even though he was a tight end in college, he was very big and strong. He often helped block for his team's running plays.
Many experts thought he would become an offensive tackle in the NFL. An offensive tackle protects the quarterback and helps block for running backs. Jason showed amazing speed for his size at the NFL Scouting Combine. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.93 seconds. This surprised many scouts.
Joining the Buffalo Bills
Jason Peters was not chosen in the 2004 NFL Draft. This made him an undrafted free agent. But many teams wanted him! The Buffalo Bills signed him in April 2004. He first joined their practice squad. This is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the main roster.
He later joined the main team. Jason became known for his strong play on special teams. He also started learning to play offensive tackle.
Becoming a Starter
In 2006, Jason became the starting right tackle for the Bills. In 2007, he moved to left tackle. This is a very important position. The left tackle protects the quarterback's blind side. Jason played so well that he was chosen for the Pro Bowl in 2007. This is an all-star game for the best players in the NFL.
Contract Talks and Pro Bowl Selections
Before the 2008 season, Jason wanted a new contract. He was playing very well and felt he deserved more money. He missed some team activities while waiting for a new deal. But he returned in time for the regular season.
Jason was chosen for the Pro Bowl again in 2008. He was also named a Second-team All-Pro. This means he was one of the best players in the league at his position.
Playing for the Philadelphia Eagles
On April 17, 2009, the Buffalo Bills traded Jason Peters to the Philadelphia Eagles. He was very happy about this move. The Eagles signed him to a big contract. Their coach, Andy Reid, said Jason Peters was "the best left tackle in football."

Jason continued to be a star player for the Eagles. He was selected for the 2010 Pro Bowl and 2011 Pro Bowl. He was also a second-team All-Pro in 2010.
