Music Career
Forming Jason & the Scorchers
In 1981, Jason Ringenberg moved to Nashville, Tennessee. There, he soon started the band Jason & the Scorchers. The other members were Warner Hodges, Jeff Johnson, and Perry Baggs. Their music was a cool mix of punk rock and country sounds. The magazine Rolling Stone said they "singlehandedly re-wrote the history of rock'n'roll in the South." The band became very popular for their albums and live shows.
Influence on Music
Jason Ringenberg and his band were very important in the 1980s. They helped create new music styles like alternative country and Americana. These styles mix country music with rock and indie sounds. In 2008, Jason & the Scorchers received a special award. The Americana Music Association gave them a Lifetime Achievement Award for their amazing performances.
Solo Work and Farmer Jason
Jason Ringenberg has also had a successful career as a solo artist. He has released several solo albums and toured by himself. The Times newspaper in London called him "one of the most exciting performers of his generation." Today, he often performs as both Jason Ringenberg and his children's music character, Farmer Jason. Sometimes, he even does both shows on the same day!
Jason created his Farmer Jason character in 2002 to entertain his own daughters. He released his first children's album, A Day at the Farm with Farmer Jason, in 2003. Farmer Jason became very popular and is now one of his most successful projects. As Farmer Jason, he sings fun songs about farm animals and how much we should appreciate nature. His PBS mini-show, "It's a Farmer Jason," was nominated for four Emmy awards and won one! He has recorded four albums and a DVD as Farmer Jason. His fourth album, Christmas on the Farm with Farmer Jason, came out in December 2014.
His album Stand Tall was released in 2019. He wrote many of the songs for this album while he was an Artist in Residence at Sequoia National Park. The songs on the album are about many different topics, from historical figures to famous punk rock bands.
