Where the Javary River Flows
The Javary River begins high up in the mountains of Peru. Its source is in the Ucayali Region, specifically in the Sierra de Contamana. From there, it makes a very winding journey through flat land. The river eventually joins the Amazon River in the Brazilian state of Amazonas.
People can travel along the Javary River by canoe for about 900 miles (1,400 km). This means you can go almost all the way from its mouth to where it starts. However, larger boats like steamships could only travel about 260 miles (420 km) up the river. In 1866, a group called the Brazilian Boundary Commission explored the river. They went up to where the Shino and Jaquirana branches meet.
Nature and Wildlife Along the River
The areas around the Javary River are very flat. This landscape is similar to the Juruá River, another tributary of the Amazon. Along the river, there are several small private areas set aside. These places help protect the local wildlife. They also offer chances for people to see amazing animals in their natural homes.
Important Towns
The town of Benjamin Constant is located right at the mouth of the Javary River. This town is on the Brazilian side of the river. It's an important spot where the Javary River meets the Amazon.]]
