Javine Dionne Hylton (born 27 December 1981), known as Javine, is an English singer and songwriter. She represented the UK in the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv. Her song was called "Touch My Fire".

Javine also had several hit songs in the UK. Her version of "You've Got a Friend" was the main song for Garfield: The Movie in 2004.

Early Life and Music Beginnings

Javine Hylton was born in Kensington, London. She grew up in an area called Ladbroke Grove.

From a young age, Javine loved to dance. She started stage school when she was 10 years old. She wanted to dance and perform.

For two years, Javine played the character Nala. This was in the musical The Lion King in London's West End. After this, she started writing her own songs. She decided to become a music artist.

She tried out for a TV show called Popstars: The Rivals. This show looked for new singers to form a music group. Javine made it to the final six contestants. However, she did not get a spot in the group, which later became Girls Aloud. Instead, she started her own solo singing career.

Javine's Music Career

In the summer of 2003, Javine released her first song, "Real Things". This song used a part of M.O.P.'s song "Ante Up". "Real Things" reached number 4 on the UK Singles Chart. It is still her biggest hit song.

After that, three more songs from her first album became Top 20 hits. These were "Surrender (Your Love)", "Best of My Love", and "Don't Walk Away". "Don't Walk Away" was released with her cover of "You've Got a Friend".

Javine's first album, Surrender, came out in the summer of 2004. Even though her songs did well, the album only just made it onto the UK Albums Chart. Because of this, her record company ended their contract with her in late 2004.

In 2003, Javine also worked with music producer Richard X. They made a song called "You Used To". It was planned to be a single but was not released.

Later in 2003, she was an opening act for the American rapper Nelly. She performed for his tour in the UK.

In October 2013, Javine worked with DJs WAWA and M.A.R.K. They released a song together called "Never". Many people liked the song. Digital Spy called it an "uptempo club number". Popjustice said it was a "belter".

Eurovision Song Contest 2005

On 5 March 2005, Javine won Eurovision: Making Your Mind Up. This was the UK competition to choose a song for the Eurovision Song Contest 2005. She sang "Touch My Fire", which she helped write.

Other singers in the competition included Gina G and Katie Price. Javine went on to represent the UK in the final in Kyiv. She finished in 22nd place with 18 points. When "Touch My Fire" was released as a single, it reached number 18 in the UK Singles Chart. This was her fifth Top 20 hit in a row.

Other TV Appearances and Work

In 2004, Javine was the face of Dasani water. However, she was no longer part of the campaign when the product was removed from the UK market.

In 2006, she appeared on Series 4 of the Channel 4 show The Games. This show featured celebrities competing in different sports. Javine won the competition.

In 2007, she took part in BBC Three's Celebrity Scissorhands. In 2008, she was the first celebrity to leave The Underdog Show. She also made a small appearance on the TV show Skins in 2009.

In 2010, Javine appeared on Celebrity Come Dine with Me. She came in second place on the cooking show. In 2012, Javine was a contestant on Celebrity Masterchef. She was eliminated from the competition along with Cheryl Baker.

Personal Life

Javine Hylton has two children. She has a daughter born in February 2008 with Michael Harvey, Jr.. She later had a son.
