Jawad Hason Williams (born February 19, 1983) is an American who used to play professional basketball. He is now an assistant coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played as a small forward or power forward. He went to St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio. Then he played college basketball for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels.

Jawad Williams' Early Life
When Jawad was at St. Edward High School, he played a little as a freshman. His team had great players like Sam Clancy, Jr. and Steve Logan. They won the state championship that year. In his later years of high school, Jawad became a top player. He was named first team All-Ohio. He also made many All-American teams. He was named AP and Gatorade Player of the Year for Ohio. He even played in the famous McDonald's All-American Game.
College Basketball Career
Jawad Williams played college basketball at the University of North Carolina. He played for coaches Matt Doherty and Roy Williams. In his senior year, he was a starter for the Tar Heels team. This team won the NCAA tournament in 2005. During his senior season, Jawad scored about 13.1 points per game. He also grabbed 4.0 rebounds and made 1.4 assists per game. He finished college in 2005. He earned a degree in African-American studies.

Professional Basketball Journey

Jawad Williams was not picked in the 2005 NBA draft. But he still got a chance to play in the NBA. The Los Angeles Clippers signed him as a free agent in 2006. He played in four preseason games for them. However, he did not make their final team roster.
After playing in Spain, Japan, and Israel, Jawad joined the Cleveland Cavaliers for their summer league in 2008. He did well enough to join their training camp. On October 23, the Cavaliers signed him to their team. This was his first time being a full member of an NBA team.
Jawad played his first regular season NBA game on December 12, 2008. He scored his first points against the Philadelphia 76ers. He was the sixth player from North Carolina's 2005 championship team to play in the NBA.
The Cavaliers let Jawad go on January 7, 2009. But just five days later, they signed him again for a 10-day contract. He was released again on February 2. After that, he joined the D-League team, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, on February 14. On April 8, he was signed by the Cavaliers again for the rest of that season.
On February 9, 2010, Jawad had his best scoring game. He scored 17 points. He also had 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal in 28 minutes.
In 2010, Jawad signed to play with the Cavaliers again for the 2010–11 NBA season. But on December 27, 2010, the Cavaliers let him go once more.
In February 2011, he signed with Hapoel Jerusalem in Israel. For the 2011–12 season, Jawad signed with Paris-Levallois Basket in France. There, he played with his college teammate David Noel. Jawad stayed with Paris-Levallois for the 2012–13 season. David Noel left, but another college teammate, Sean May, joined him. Paris-Levallois let him go on January 15, 2014. In February 2014, he signed with Pınar Karşıyaka in Turkey for the rest of the season.
On June 13, 2016, Jawad signed with AEK Athens in Greece for the 2016–17 season. On February 12, 2017, he left AEK. The next day, he signed with the Italian club Pallacanestro Reggiana for the rest of that season.
In July 2017, Jawad signed with Alvark Tokyo in Japan's B.League.
On June 1, 2022, Jawad Williams announced that he was retiring from playing professional basketball.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Jawad Williams started a new path in coaching. In July 2022, he joined Nagasaki Velca in Japan's B. League. He worked there as an assistant coach and helped players get better.
Later, on September 9, 2024, Jawad was hired by the Sacramento Kings in the National Basketball Association. He was an assistant coach and director of player development for them. However, on May 3, 2025, it was announced that he would be leaving the Kings.
Then, on June 18, 2025, Jawad Williams joined the Cleveland Cavaliers. He is now an assistant coach for the Cavaliers, working under head coach Kenny Atkinson.
