Randy "Jay" Jackson (born October 27, 1987) is an American professional baseball pitcher. He is currently a free agent, meaning he is not signed to a team. Jay has played for several teams in Major League Baseball (MLB), including the San Diego Padres and Toronto Blue Jays. He also played in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) in Japan.

Jay Jackson's Baseball Journey
Jay Jackson started his baseball career playing college baseball at Furman University. He was chosen by the Chicago Cubs in the 2008 Major League Baseball draft. This was the start of his long journey through professional baseball.
Starting with the Chicago Cubs
Jay went to high school in Greenville, South Carolina. After college, the Chicago Cubs picked him in the ninth round of the 2008 draft. He began playing in the minor leagues. He played for teams like the Boise Hawks and Peoria Chiefs. In 2009, he moved up to play for the Iowa Cubs, a higher-level minor league team. He stayed with the Iowa Cubs for several years. In 2013, he left the Cubs organization.
Playing for the Miami Marlins
In April 2013, Jay signed a contract with the Miami Marlins. He played for their minor league teams, the Jacksonville Suns and New Orleans Zephyrs. He pitched well for these teams. Later that year, he became a free agent again.
Time with the Pittsburgh Pirates
Jay then signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates in November 2013. He played for their Triple-A team, the Indianapolis Indians, in 2014.
Joining the Milwaukee Brewers
In August 2014, Jay was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers. He finished the year playing for their Triple-A team, the Nashville Sounds. After the season, he became a free agent.
Making His MLB Debut with the San Diego Padres
In 2015, Jay signed with the San Diego Padres. He played for their minor league teams, the San Antonio Missions and El Paso Chihuahuas. On September 14, 2015, Jay Jackson made his first appearance in Major League Baseball! He pitched for the Padres against the Arizona Diamondbacks. After the season, he left the Padres to play baseball in Japan.
Playing in Japan with Hiroshima Toyo Carp
On December 26, 2015, Jay signed with the Hiroshima Toyo Carp in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) league. He had a great season in 2016, appearing in 67 games. He continued to play well for the Carp in 2017 and 2018.
Second Time with the Milwaukee Brewers
Jay returned to the Milwaukee Brewers in 2019. He started in the minor leagues but was soon called up to play for the Brewers in MLB. He played in 28 games for Milwaukee that year.
Back to Japan with Chiba Lotte Marines
In December 2019, Jay signed with another Japanese team, the Chiba Lotte Marines. He played seven games for them in 2020.
Brief Stint with the Cincinnati Reds
In August 2020, the Cincinnati Reds signed Jay. However, he did not play in any games for them. This was because the minor league season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Playing for the San Francisco Giants
Jay signed with the San Francisco Giants in January 2021. He started in the minor leagues but was called up to the Giants' main team in July. He pitched in 23 games for the Giants in 2021.
Time with the Atlanta Braves
In November 2021, Jay was traded to the Atlanta Braves. He had an injury early in 2022. He made only two appearances for the Braves that season.
Joining the Toronto Blue Jays
Jay signed with the Toronto Blue Jays in January 2023. He had a good season with them, pitching in 25 games. He showed strong performance with a low earned run average (ERA).
Most Recently with the Minnesota Twins
In February 2024, Jay signed a contract with the Minnesota Twins. He played in 17 games for the Twins. Later, he was sent to their minor league team. He was released by the Twins organization in July 2024.
