Jon Ferguson "Jay" Mohr (born August 23, 1970) is an American actor, stand-up comedian, and radio host. He is known for many roles in television and movies.
He played Professor Rick Payne in the TV series Ghost Whisperer from 2006 to 2008. He also had the main role in the CBS sitcom Gary Unmarried from 2008 to 2010. From 1993 to 1995, he was a cast member on the famous comedy show Saturday Night Live.
Mohr has appeared in many movies since his first major film, Jerry Maguire (1996). Some of his other films include Picture Perfect (1997), Small Soldiers (1998), and Pay It Forward (2000). He also appeared in the movie Air (2023).
He hosted his own podcast called Mohr Stories. For a time, he also hosted a sports talk show on Fox Sports Radio. For his work hosting the show Last Comic Standing, he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award.

Early Life
Jay Mohr was born on August 23, 1970, in Verona, New Jersey. His mother, Iva Jean, was a nurse, and his father, Jon Wood Mohr, was a marketing executive. He has two sisters, Julia and Virginia.
Mohr grew up in a Presbyterian family and later became a Catholic. He went to Verona High School and graduated in 1988. In high school, he was the captain of the wrestling team. After graduating, he started acting in local theater.
Career
Acting Career
Mohr's television career began in the early 1990s. After appearing on MTV's "Half Hour Comedy Hour," he hosted the game show Lip Service on MTV.
From 1993 to 1995, he was a featured actor on Saturday Night Live. He later wrote a book about this challenging time in his life called Gasping for Airtime: Two Years in the Trenches of Saturday Night Live. He said that his co-star Sarah Silverman helped him a lot during this period.
Mohr's first big movie role was in 1996 as the sports agent Bob Sugar in Jerry Maguire. The next year, he starred with Jennifer Aniston in Picture Perfect. In 1999, he starred in the TV series Action as a film producer named Peter Dragon.
He has appeared in many other movies, including Are We There Yet?, Small Soldiers, Go, and Pay It Forward. He also had a recurring role on the TV shows The West Wing and Scrubs.
From 2006 to 2008, Mohr played Professor Rick Payne on the popular TV series Ghost Whisperer. Soon after, he starred as Gary Brooks in the CBS sitcom Gary Unmarried for two seasons.
Radio and Podcast Host
Mohr was a frequent guest on The Jim Rome Show. In 2013, he began hosting his own daily show, Jay Mohr Sports, on Fox Sports Radio. He left the show in 2016 to focus on acting.
He also hosted a popular podcast called Mohr Stories, which started on the SModcast Network.
Other Projects
In 2004, Mohr published his first book, Gasping for Airtime, about his experiences on Saturday Night Live. His second book, No Wonder My Parents Drank: Tales from a Stand-Up Dad, was released in 2010.
His comedy album Happy. And A Lot was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album. He has also hosted the NASCAR Cup Series Awards Ceremony several times.
Personal Life
Mohr has a son named Jackson from his marriage to Nicole Chamberlain.
He married actress Nikki Cox in 2006. They have a son, Meredith Daniel, who was born in 2011. Mohr and Cox's divorce was finalized in 2018.
In 2017, Mohr began dating Jeanie Buss, the owner of the Los Angeles Lakers. They got married on September 3, 2023.
