He often appears on TV to talk about important topics like mental health and finding meaning in life.

Early Life and Education

Jay Shetty was born in London, England, on September 6, 1987. His parents are of Indian origin and raised him in a Hindu family. From a young age, he was part of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, also known as the Hare Krishna movement.

Career Journey

Becoming a Monk

While in business school, Shetty met a monk named Gauranga Das. The monk was giving a talk about living a simple and selfless life. Shetty was so inspired that he decided to learn more.

Shetty has said he spent three years, from 2010 to 2013, living as a monk in an ashram (a type of monastery) in India. However, other reports suggest he spent much of this time in England, making videos for the Hare Krishna community.

From Corporate Life to Content Creator

After his time as a monk, Shetty worked at a company called Accenture. He worked on digital plans and coached company leaders on how to use social media.

In 2016, he decided to create his own content. His videos about relationships and life advice got the attention of Arianna Huffington, who hired him to make videos for the Huffington Post. After leaving the HuffPost in 2017, he started posting his own videos on YouTube and Facebook, quickly gaining millions of followers.
