Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington (born July 15, 1950) is a Greek-American author, writer for newspapers and magazines, and businesswoman. She is famous for starting important companies and writing many books.
Arianna Huffington is a co-founder of HuffPost, which is a popular online news and blog site. She also founded and is the CEO of Thrive Global, a company focused on well-being. She has written fifteen books. Time magazine has named her one of the world's 100 most influential people. Forbes magazine has also listed her among the Most Powerful Women. She helps lead many organizations, including Onex and Global Citizen.
Her books, Thrive: The Third Metric to Redefining Success and Creating a Life of Well-Being, Wisdom, and Wonder and The Sleep Revolution: Transforming Your Life, One Night at a Time, became very popular around the world.
Arianna Huffington helped start The Huffington Post. Later, a company called AOL bought The Huffington Post for a lot of money. She became the head of The Huffington Post Media Group. In 2016, she left The Huffington Post to start her new company, Thrive Global.

Arianna's Early Life
Arianna Stassinopoúlou was born in Athens, Greece, in 1950. Her father, Konstantinos, was a journalist, and her mother was Elli. She has a sister named Agapi, who is also an author.
When she was 16, Arianna moved to the United Kingdom. She studied economics at Girton College, Cambridge, a famous university. She was the first student from another country to become president of the Cambridge Union, which is a well-known debating society. She also traveled to India to study different religions.
In the 1970s, Arianna started writing books. She also appeared on British TV shows.
Her Career Journey
In 1973, Arianna wrote a book called The Female Woman. In the late 1980s, she wrote articles for National Review. She also wrote biographies about famous people like the singer Maria Callas (in 1981) and the artist Pablo Picasso (in 1989).
Arianna became well-known in the U.S. in the mid-1990s. At that time, she was a popular commentator who shared conservative ideas. She even worked with comedian Al Franken on a TV show called "Strange Bedfellows" during the 1996 U.S. presidential election. She was nominated for an Emmy award for her writing on Politically Incorrect.
By the late 1990s, her views changed, and she began to share more liberal ideas. She hosted a radio show in Los Angeles called Left, Right & Center. Creating The Huffington Post
In 2005, Arianna Huffington started The Huffington Post with Andrew Breitbart, Kenneth Lerer, and Jonah Peretti. It launched on May 9, 2005. It was a new kind of website that shared news, opinions, and blogs. It was an alternative to other news sites.
In February 2011, AOL bought The Huffington Post for $315 million. Arianna became the editor-in-chief, which means she was in charge of all the content. Arianna left The Huffington Post in 2016.
Starting Thrive Global
In 2016, Arianna left her roles at AOL and The Huffington Post to start her new company, Thrive Global. This company aims to help people reduce stress and avoid burnout. It offers "science-based solutions" to improve health and productivity.
Thrive Global has launched several projects:

Running for Governor in California
In 2003, Arianna Huffington ran as an independent candidate for governor in the 2003 California recall election. This election was held to decide if the current governor, Gray Davis, should be removed from office. She often compared herself to a "hybrid car" and her main opponent, Arnold Schwarzenegger, to a "Hummer." This was to show her focus on cleaner energy.
She decided to leave the race on September 30, 2003. She then supported Governor Gray Davis and asked people to vote against removing him. Even though she left the race, her name was still on the ballot, and she received some votes.

The family moved to Santa Barbara, California. Michael Huffington ran for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1992 and won. In 1994, he ran for the United States Senate but did not win.
Arianna and Michael divorced in 1997. Arianna Huffington lives in New York City and Los Angeles.
