Jayde Yuk Fun Riviere (born January 22, 2001) is a talented Canadian professional soccer player. She plays as a right-back for Women's Super League club Manchester United and also for the Canada women's national team.
Jayde played college soccer at the University of Michigan. After that, she signed her first professional contract with Manchester United in 2023. She represented Canada at many youth levels before playing for the senior team in 2017. In 2021, she won a gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Early Life and Soccer Beginnings
Jayde Riviere was born in Markham, Ontario. Her father first taught her how to play soccer when she was just three years old. She started playing club soccer at age four for West Rouge SC.
Later, she played for Pickering SC. When she was 13, she moved to Markham SC. Jayde also went to Bill Crothers Secondary School. There, she played other sports like volleyball, flag football, and track and field. She was even named Female Athlete of the Year! This was after she scored an amazing 50 goals in only 20 games during her one year of high school soccer. After high school, she joined the Ontario REX program. In August 2017, Jayde moved across Canada to Burnaby, British Columbia. She joined the special training program at the Vancouver Whitecaps Super REX Academy.
College Soccer Journey
In 2014, Jayde decided she wanted to play college soccer for the Michigan Wolverines at the University of Michigan. She received 28 full scholarship offers from different universities! She even turned down chances to play professionally so she could go to Michigan.
Jayde played her first college game on August 22, 2019. It was a big 5–0 win against Marshall Thundering Herd. She scored her first and only college goal on November 8, 2019. This goal was the winning point in overtime during a semi-final game. Because of her great play in her first year, she was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
In 2021, she played in 22 games, which was her most in a season. She helped Michigan win the 2021 Big Ten women's soccer tournament title. This was their first title since 1999! They also reached the NCAA quarter-finals, which was a great achievement for the team.
Jayde played one game in the 2022 season. After that, she announced she would stop playing for Michigan early. This was because of a lower body injury. Overall, she played 47 games for Michigan, scoring one goal and making three assists.
Professional Club Career
In April 2022, Jayde signed with AFC Ann Arbor. This team plays in the amateur USL W League. She played in four games during that season.
Even though many thought she would be a top pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft, Jayde did not join it. This was because European clubs were interested in her. On January 21, 2023, she signed her first professional contract. It was with the English team Manchester United. This deal was for two and a half years. She made her first game appearance for Manchester United on May 7. She came into the game as a substitute in a 3–0 win against Tottenham Hotspur.
Playing for Canada
Youth National Teams
Jayde first joined the Canadian youth soccer program in September 2015. She was only 14 years old when she was called up to the under-17 team. In March 2016, she played in her first tournament, the 2016 CONCACAF Women's U-17 Championship.
Later that year, she helped her team finish second at the 2016 CONCACAF Girls' U-15 Championship. She played in all seven games and scored four goals. She also played in the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup that year. Even after playing for the senior team in 2017, Jayde continued to play for youth teams. In 2018, she played in three big youth tournaments. She played in every game at the 2018 CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. She also helped her team finish third at the 2018 CONCACAF Women's U-17 Championship. Finally, she helped them reach the semi-finals of the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.
Senior National Team
In November 2017, Jayde Riviere was called up to the Canada senior team for the first time. This was for two friendly games against the United States. On November 12, 2017, she played her first game for the senior team. She came in as a substitute in the 71st minute. On April 8, 2019, she started her first game for the senior team. She helped set up both goals in a 2–1 friendly win against Nigeria.
In May 2019, she was chosen to be on the team for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France. She started the second group game, a 2–0 win over New Zealand. She played in two more games as a substitute. Canada was later knocked out of the tournament by Sweden.
Jayde scored her first goal for the senior team on January 29, 2020. It was the sixth goal in a big 11–0 win against Saint Kitts and Nevis. This happened during the 2020 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Championship.
In 2021, Jayde represented Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. She became a starter in the group stage matches, helping Canada beat Chile and draw with Great Britain. She was suspended for the semi-final game. But she returned for the gold medal match. Canada won the gold medal in a penalty shootout against Sweden!
Personal Life
Jayde Riviere's father was born in Dominica. Her mother was born in Hong Kong. In 2021, Jayde was honored in her hometown of Markham. The Mayor, Frank Scarpitti, declared August 6 to be "Jayde Riviere Day" in Markham. This was after Canada won the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Jayde often goes back to her old youth club, Markham SC, to help with soccer camps for younger players.
