Jayde Yuk Fun Riviere (born January 22, 2001) is a talented Canadian soccer player. She plays as a right-back for Women's Super League club Manchester United in England. Jayde also plays for the Canadian national team.

Before becoming a professional, Jayde played college soccer at the University of Michigan. She joined Manchester United in 2023. Jayde also played for Canada's youth teams before joining the senior national team in 2017. A big highlight for her was winning a gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan in 2021.

Early Life and Soccer Beginnings

Jayde Riviere was born in Markham, Ontario, Canada. Her father first taught her to play soccer when she was just three years old. She started playing for a club team called West Rouge SC at age four. Later, she played for Pickering SC before moving to Markham SC when she was 13.

High School and Academy Training

Jayde went to Bill Crothers Secondary School. There, she played other sports like volleyball, flag football, and track and field. In her only year of high school soccer, she scored an amazing 50 goals in just 20 games. This led to her being named Female Athlete of the Year. In August 2017, Jayde moved to Burnaby, British Columbia. She joined the Vancouver Whitecaps Super REX Academy, a special training program for young soccer players.

College Soccer Journey

In 2014, Jayde decided she wanted to play college soccer for the Michigan Wolverines at the University of Michigan. She received 28 full scholarship offers from different universities. She even turned down chances to play professionally so she could attend Michigan.

Playing for the Wolverines

Jayde started her college career on August 22, 2019. She played her first game, a 5–0 win. On November 8, 2019, she scored her first and only college goal. It was an overtime winner in a big game against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. This helped her team win 2–1 in the 2019 Big Ten women's soccer tournament semi-final. In her first year, she was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.

In 2021, Jayde played in 22 games, which was her most in a season. She helped Michigan win the 2021 Big Ten women's soccer tournament title. This was their first title since 1999. They also reached the NCAA quarter-finals, matching the team's best-ever result. Jayde played one game in the 2022 season before ending her college career early due to an injury. Overall, she played 47 games for Michigan, scoring one goal and making three assists.

Professional Club Career

In April 2022, Jayde joined AFC Ann Arbor in the USL W League, which is an amateur league. She played in four games during that season.

Joining Manchester United

Even though many thought she would be a top pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft, Jayde did not enter. There were rumors that European clubs were interested in her. On January 21, 2023, she signed her first professional contract. She joined Manchester United, a team in the English Women's Super League. Her contract was for two and a half years. Jayde made her debut for Manchester United on May 7, 2023. She came into the game as a substitute in a 3–0 win against Tottenham Hotspur.

Youth National Teams

Jayde first joined the Canadian youth program in September 2015 when she was 14. She played for the under-17 team. In March 2016, she played in her first tournament, the 2016 CONCACAF Women's U-17 Championship. Later that year, she helped the U-15 team finish second at the 2016 CONCACAF Girls' U-15 Championship. She played in all seven games and scored four goals. She also played in two matches at the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.

Even after playing for the senior team in 2017, Jayde continued to play for youth teams. In 2018, she played in three major youth tournaments. She played in every game at the 2018 CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. She also helped the U-17 team finish third at the 2018 CONCACAF Women's U-17 Championship. She ended the year by helping the U-17 team reach the semi-finals of the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.

Senior National Team

In November 2017, Jayde was called up to the Canada senior team for the first time. This was for two friendly games against the United States. On November 12, 2017, she made her senior international debut. She came into the game as a substitute. On April 8, 2019, she started her first game for the senior team. She helped set up both goals in a 2–1 friendly win against Nigeria.

FIFA Women's World Cup and Olympic Gold

In May 2019, Jayde was chosen for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France. She started the second group game, a 2–0 win over New Zealand. She played in two more games as a substitute. Canada was later knocked out by Sweden.

Jayde scored her first goal for the senior team on January 29, 2020. It was the sixth goal in a big 11–0 win against Saint Kitts and Nevis. This happened during the 2020 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Championship.

In 2021, Jayde represented Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. She played in the remaining group stage matches, helping Canada beat Chile and draw with Great Britain. Jayde was suspended for the semi-final game. However, she returned for the gold medal match. She came on during overtime as Canada won the gold medal in a penalty shootout against Sweden.

Jayde was also part of the Canada squad for the 2022 CONCACAF W Championship, where Canada finished second. She was also called up for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup and the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Personal Life

Jayde Riviere's father was born in Dominica, and her mother was born in Hong Kong. In 2021, her hometown of Markham honored her. Mayor Frank Scarpitti declared August 6 to be "Jayde Riviere Day" in Markham. This was to celebrate Canada's gold medal win at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Jayde often goes back to her old youth club, Markham SC, to help with soccer camps for younger players.
