Jaylen Smith finished high school in May 2022. He went to Earle High School in his hometown.
Becoming Mayor
In 2022, Jaylen Smith ran for mayor of Earle, Arkansas. He was a candidate for the Democratic Party. He won the election with 235 votes. His opponent, Nemi Matthews, received 185 votes.
Smith officially became mayor on January 3, 2023. His win made him the youngest Black mayor in US history. It also made him one of the youngest mayors of any background in the United States.
What the Mayor Does
As mayor, Jaylen Smith has important goals for Earle. He wants to make the city safer for everyone. He also aims to improve how people get around, like roads and public transport.
