Jazmin Sawyers (born on May 21, 1994) is a British track and field athlete. She is famous for competing in the long jump. Jazmin represents both Great Britain and England. In 2023, she won her first big senior title at the European Indoor Championships.
Jazmin won a silver medal for England in the long jump at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She also earned silver and bronze medals for Great Britain at the 2016 and 2022 European Championships. Sawyers competed in the long jump at both the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She finished eighth in both events.
When she was a junior athlete, Jazmin won a bronze medal at the 2012 World Junior Championships. She also won silver at the 2013 European Junior Championships. Later, she earned another silver at the 2015 European Under-23 Championships. She is a double gold medalist from the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games. She won gold in both the long jump and the sprint relay.
Jazmin Sawyers has won five national championships in her career. She holds the British indoor record for the long jump. Her best indoor jump is an amazing 7.00 meters.

Early Life and Education
Jazmin Sawyers was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England. Her father is Jamaican, and her mother is English. Her mother later became a very important police officer.
When she was four years old, Jazmin started as a gymnast. At age ten, she began trying different athletics events at school. She then decided to focus on these sports.
Jazmin studied law at Bristol University. She successfully graduated with a good degree.
Athletics Career Highlights
Jazmin started her athletics journey with the City of Stoke Athletics Club. She mainly focused on high jump and long jump. In 2007, she was the high jump runner-up at the English Schools Championships. She finished just behind another famous athlete, Katarina Johnson-Thompson.
The next year, Jazmin won English Schools' titles in both the long jump and the pentathlon. She managed to do this again in 2009. In 2010, she received a scholarship to study at Millfield public school.
Youth and Junior Success
Jazmin first competed internationally in 2011. At the World Youth Championships, she finished ninth in the heptathlon. That year, she jumped over six meters in the long jump for the first time.
She then won a gold medal in the long jump at the Commonwealth Youth Games. She also won gold in the 4 × 100 metres relay with the England team at that event.
In 2012, Jazmin focused on the long jump. This was because her bobsleigh training helped her with explosive strength. She set a new personal best of 6.64 m (21 ft 9.29232284 in) meters. She won a bronze medal at the World Junior Championships. Her jump of 6.67 m (21 ft 10.47342520 in) meters was one of the best junior jumps that year.
She later studied at the University of Sheffield and trained with coach Toni Minichiello. In 2013, she continued to focus on the long jump. She was runner-up at the British Universities Championships. She also won silver medals at the UK Championships and the European Junior Championships.
Commonwealth Games Silver Medal
In 2014, Jazmin had a great start to the year. She set an indoor best of 6.44 m (21 ft 1.41830709 in) meters. She won several competitions leading up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
At the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, her final jump of 6.54 m (21 ft 5.35531496 in) meters was her best of the season. This amazing jump earned her a silver medal. It was her first major international medal as a senior athlete.
Recent Achievements and Challenges
Jazmin became a three-time British champion in 2020. She won the long jump event at the British Championships with a jump of 6.69 meters. She had also won this event in 2016.
At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo (held in 2021), Jazmin finished 8th. Her jump was 6.80 meters. In 2022, at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, she finished ninth.
Later that year, at the European Championships in Munich, Jazmin was in fourth place. In her very last jump, she made an incredible leap of 6.80 meters. This jump won her the bronze medal!
First Major Senior Title
In March 2023, Jazmin Sawyers was the captain for Great Britain at the European Indoor Championships in Istanbul. She easily qualified for the final with her first jump.
In the final, she jumped an incredible 7.00 meters. This jump won her the gold medal! It also set a new national indoor record for Great Britain.
Sadly, in August 2023, Jazmin did not qualify for the final at the World Athletics Championships. On April 25, 2024, she announced that she had a serious injury to her Achilles tendon. This meant she would miss the Paris 2024 Olympics. However, she joined the BBC as a commentator for the athletics events at the Olympics.
Bobsleigh Career
In 2011, Jazmin was asked to train for the first ever Youth Winter Olympics. She became a brakewoman in a two-man bob team with Mica McNeill.
In January 2012, they represented Great Britain at the bobsleigh at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics. Jazmin and Mica won silver medals, becoming the first British team to win a medal at this event. They were the only medalists for Britain that year. Because of this, Jazmin was chosen to carry the 2012 Olympic torch.
Other Interests and Activities
Jazmin Sawyers is also a talented singer and songwriter. In February 2017, she appeared on the TV show The Voice UK. She was chosen by Will.i.am to be on his team. She told the show that athletics was still her main focus. She was later eliminated from the show.
Jazmin was also an Ambassador for Right To Play. This is a charity that uses sport to help children around the world. In 2018, she visited their education program in Tanzania.
