Jeffrey Curtis Ayres (born April 29, 1987) is an American professional basketball player. He plays for Indomables de Ciudad Juárez in Mexico. Before becoming a pro, he went to Etiwanda High School and played college basketball for Arizona State University. He was also known as Jeff Pendergraph earlier in his career.

College Basketball Journey
Jeff Ayres played basketball for Arizona State University for four years. During his time there, he averaged about 12.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. He also blocked about one shot per game.
In his second year, he had an amazing game where he grabbed 19 rebounds. This helped his team win against Colgate. In his final year, Jeff was a top player. He averaged 14.5 points and was named to the Pac-10's First Team. He also led the whole country in field goal percentage, making 66% of his shots. In one game in 2009, he scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Professional Basketball Career
Playing for the Portland Trail Blazers
Jeff Ayres was chosen by the Sacramento Kings in the 2009 NBA draft. He was the 31st player picked overall. Soon after, he was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers. He joined the Trail Blazers for the Summer League, where he played well.
He made his official NBA debut on December 22, 2009. He scored 2 points in just 4 minutes of playing time. In April 2010, he had his best scoring game with the Trail Blazers, getting 23 points. Unfortunately, he had a knee injury before the 2011 season started. This injury caused him to miss the entire season.
Time with the Indiana Pacers
Jeff then signed with the Indiana Pacers for the 2011-12 season. He had another small knee injury early on but recovered. In April 2012, he started his first game for the Pacers. He scored 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in that game.
In 2013, during a playoff game against the Miami Heat, Jeff was involved in a pushing match with an opposing player. Both players were removed from the game.
Winning a Championship with the San Antonio Spurs
On July 11, 2013, Jeff Ayres joined the San Antonio Spurs. He played his first game for them in October 2013. The biggest highlight of his time with the Spurs was in 2014. He helped the team win the 2014 NBA Finals against the Miami Heat. This was his first NBA championship!
NBA Development League and Los Angeles Clippers
After his time with the Spurs, Jeff played in the NBA Development League (now called the G-League). This league helps players develop their skills. In 2015, he was the first player picked in the D-League draft by the Idaho Stampede. He played very well there and was even named an NBA D-League All-Star in 2016. He was also selected for the All-NBA D-League First Team.
During this time, he also signed two short contracts with the Los Angeles Clippers. He played a few games for them before returning to the D-League.
Playing Overseas and in Other Leagues
Jeff Ayres has played basketball in many different countries and leagues around the world.
- In September 2016, he signed a short contract with a Russian team called CSKA Moscow.
- In 2017, he played for Alvark Tokyo in Japan.
- Later in 2017, he moved to Turkey to play for Eskişehir Basket.
- He returned to Japan in 2018, playing for the Ryukyu Golden Kings, then the Nagoya Diamond Dolphins, and later Niigata Albirex BB.
- In 2022, Jeff was drafted to play in the BIG3 league, which is a professional 3-on-3 basketball league.
- He also played in The Basketball Tournament in 2018.
Jeff Ayres continues to play professional basketball. As of 2025, he is playing for Indomables de Ciudad Juárez in Mexico.
Personal Life
Jeff Ayres is married to Raneem Ayres, and they have three children together. In 2013, he officially changed his last name from Pendergraph to Ayres. He chose to use his biological father's last name.
