The Jefferson Davis Presidential Library and Museum is a special place that keeps important papers, records, and items belonging to Jefferson Davis. He was the President of the Confederate States of America from 1861 to 1865 during the American Civil War. This library and museum is located in Biloxi, Mississippi, United States, on the historic Beauvoir site. Larry Albert of Albert & Associates Architects designed the building.

What You Can Find at the Library
The main goal of this library is to save and share the official papers, records, and historical items of Jefferson Davis. Even though it's called a "Presidential Library," it's not run by the National Archives and Records Administration. This is because Jefferson Davis was never president of the United States.
However, the State of Mississippi helps support the library. You can see this on a special sign at the entrance. The Mississippi Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans manages the library. It has exhibits that change often, plus a permanent exhibit. This permanent display tells the story of Davis's life.
Rebuilding After Hurricane Katrina
On August 29, 2005, a very strong storm called Hurricane Katrina hit the area. The library suffered a lot of damage from the wind and water. Several parts of the site were completely destroyed. These included the library pavilion, the Hayes Cottage, and the gift shop.
After the hurricane, all the historical items were carefully photographed and stored. This was done to protect them while the Beauvoir Historic Site was being repaired. On January 9, 2007, work began to rebuild the library and museum. The original building could not be fixed because of the severe damage.
A new library was built instead. It was officially opened again to the public on June 3, 2013. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) helped a lot with the costs. FEMA paid $4 million to fix Beauvoir and another $10 million to build the new library. Outside the museum, you can see a statue of Jefferson Davis. It was created by the sculptor William Beckwith.
