Jeffrey Michael Tambor (born July 8, 1944) is a retired American actor. He is famous for his roles in many popular TV shows and movies. You might know him as Hank Kingsley on The Larry Sanders Show or as George Bluth Sr. and Oscar Bluth on Arrested Development.
He also played Maura Pfefferman in the series Transparent. This role won him two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award. His movie roles include Mayor Augustus May Who in How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Tom Manning in the Hellboy movies. He also voiced characters in animated films like Tangled and Trolls.

Early Life and Education
Jeffrey Tambor was born in San Francisco, California. His mother, Eileen, was a homemaker, and his father, Bernard, was a flooring contractor. He grew up in a Conservative Jewish family.
Tambor went to Abraham Lincoln High School in San Francisco. He later studied acting at San Francisco State University. After that, he earned a master's degree from Wayne State University in Michigan.
Acting Career

Tambor began his acting career in the theater. He made his Broadway debut in 1976 in a comedy called Sly Fox. He also started appearing on television in shows like Taxi, Kojak, and M*A*S*H. His first main role on TV was in the show The Ropers from 1979 to 1980.
Famous Television Roles
The Larry Sanders Show
From 1992 to 1998, Tambor played Hank Kingsley on The Larry Sanders Show. Hank was the funny and self-centered sidekick to a fictional talk show host. This role made him very popular and earned him four Emmy Award nominations.
Arrested Development
In 2003, Tambor began starring in the comedy series Arrested Development. He played two characters: George Bluth Sr. and his twin brother, Oscar Bluth. The show was very popular with critics and fans. Tambor was nominated for two more Emmy Awards for his work on the show.
Transparent
In 2014, Tambor took on the lead role in the Amazon series Transparent. He played Maura Pfefferman, a parent who is transgender. His performance was highly praised. He won a Golden Globe Award and two Emmy Awards for Best Actor. He was the first actor to win an Emmy for playing a transgender character.
Movie and Voice Acting Roles
Tambor has also appeared in many movies. He played Sully in There's Something About Mary and the mayor in How the Grinch Stole Christmas. He was also Tom Manning in Hellboy and its sequel, Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

Career Challenges
In 2017, Tambor faced accusations of inappropriate behavior from people he worked with on the show Transparent. He denied the accusations but apologized if his actions made anyone uncomfortable. He said he could be "difficult" and had a temper.
Because of the controversy, Tambor announced he would not return to Transparent. In 2018, his co-star from Arrested Development, Jessica Walter, said Tambor had yelled at her on set. She said he later apologized, and she would be willing to work with him again. After these events, Tambor retired from acting in 2020.
Personal Life
Jeffrey Tambor is married to Kasia Ostlun. They have four children together: a son named Gabriel, a daughter named Eve, and twin sons named Hugo and Eli. Tambor also has an adult daughter, Molly, from a previous relationship.
For a short time, Tambor studied Scientology but has said he is no longer a member.
