Jekalyn Almonique Carr (born April 22, 1997) is an American gospel singer and songwriter. She has been nominated for six Grammy Awards. In 2025, she won a Grammy for "Best Gospel Performance/Song." This award was for her song “One Hallelujah,” which she performed with Israel Houghton, Erica Campbell, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, and Jonathan McReynolds.
Early Life
Jekalyn Almonique Carr was born on April 22, 1997. Her parents are Jennifer Denise Carr and Allen Lindsey Carr. She grew up in Arkansas and has two siblings, Allen Lindsey Carr Jr. and Allundria Carr.
When Jekalyn was five years old, she started singing in her church choir. Her family noticed she had a natural talent for music. Jekalyn taught herself how to sing. She became a main singer in her local church. At age 11, she felt called to serve in ministry. This meant she would both speak and sing for her church.
Music Career
Jekalyn Carr began focusing on music professionally at age 15. Her song “Greater Is Coming” was a big hit. It reached the top ten on Billboard’s Gospel Music chart. When she was 16, she received her first Stellar Award. These awards celebrate excellence in gospel music.
In 2021, Jekalyn Carr made history. She became the first gospel artist to join the Women Songwriters Hall of Fame. This honor recognizes amazing female songwriters. In 2022, she received a special Lifetime Achievement Award. This award was given to her by President Joe Biden.
On September 6, 2024, Carr released a new album. It was called “Jekalyn Carr Presents... The Inspiration Project.” This album featured songs with other artists. Some of these artists included Emoni Wilkins, Jericho Worship, and Timothy Rogers.
