Jel Sert's Sweet History
The company's name, Jel Sert, comes from its very first product. This was a gelatin dessert mix. The name combines the words jelly and dessert.
In 1929, Jel Sert created a powdered drink mix called Flavor Aid. For many years, these two products were the most important ones for the company.
Growing with Frozen Treats
In the 1960s, Jel Sert bought Pop-Ice. This brought a new line of frozen ice pop desserts to the company. Later in that same decade, Jel Sert launched Fla-Vor-Ice. This was another type of freezer pop. It was made to go along with their Flavor Aid drink mix. Fla-Vor-Ice quickly became the most popular freezer pop brand in the United States.
In 1996, Jel Sert added Otter Pops to its collection. Otter Pops are similar to other freezer pops. They are very popular on the West Coast of the United States. Otter Pops have fun characters for each flavor, like Lil' Orphan Orange and Sir Isaac Lime. In 1999, the company worked with General Mills' Honey Nut Cheerios to promote its freezer bars.
Expanding the Product Family
Jel Sert continued to grow by buying other brands. In 2000, they acquired three new trademarks. These included Wyler's, a brand of powdered drink mixes. They also bought the Royal and My-T-Fine brands. These brands made puddings, pie fillings, and flan.
In 2001, Jel Sert purchased the gelatin, pudding, and baking powder businesses from Nabisco. This included Royal gelatin, which was a big competitor to Kraft Foods' Jell-O. In 2012, Jel Sert acquired Super C, Pure Kick, and Zoic from Solis Brands. The company also bought All Sport in 2020. Jel Sert even sells freezer pops that contain alcohol.
New Partnerships and Flavors
In 2021, Jel Sert teamed up with Coca-Cola. Together, they launched Powerade freezer pops across the country. In 2024, Jel Sert worked with Mars. They created new pudding and pie mixes. These mixes tasted like Milky Way and Snickers candy bars.
Giving Back to the Community
