Jelani Marwan McCoy (born December 6, 1977) is an American former professional basketball player. Standing 6 feet 10 inches tall, he played as a power forward and center. Jelani played in the NBA from 1998 to 2007 for several teams, including the Seattle SuperSonics and Los Angeles Lakers. He is also an NBA champion, winning a title with the Lakers in 2002.

Jelani McCoy's Early Life and College Career

Jelani McCoy was born in Oakland, California, U.S. He went to St. Augustine High School in San Diego, California. After high school, he attended the UCLA.

Playing for UCLA

At UCLA, Jelani was a very strong player. By 1998, he had become UCLA's all-time leader in blocked shots. This means he stopped more shots from opponents than any other player in the school's history up to that point! During his time at UCLA, Jelani faced a temporary suspension from the team, but he was later able to rejoin.

Jelani McCoy had a long career playing basketball both in the NBA and internationally. He played for many different teams, showing his skills as a power forward and center.

Time in the NBA

Jelani played in the NBA from 1998 to 2007. During his NBA career, he averaged about 4.7 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. He was part of the Los Angeles Lakers team that won the 2002 NBA Finals. Even though the Lakers won the championship that year, Jelani was injured for most of the season and wasn't on the team's roster for the playoffs.
