Jenkinsburg's Past: A Brief History
Jenkinsburg got its name from the Jenkins family. They were the first owners of the land where the town was built.
The Georgia General Assembly, which is Georgia's law-making group, officially made Jenkinsburg a town in 1889.
In January 2023, a strong tornado caused damage in the community. It was an EF2 tornado. The tornado sadly led to some injuries and two deaths in the wider area.
Where is Jenkinsburg?
Jenkinsburg is in the northwest part of Butts County. You can find it along U.S. Route 23.
It is about 5 miles (8 kilometers) northwest of Jackson. Jackson is the main town in Butts County. Jenkinsburg is also about 5 miles (8 kilometers) southeast of Locust Grove. From Locust Grove, you can get onto Interstate 75.
The city covers an area of about 3.2 square kilometers (1.2 square miles). Almost all of this area is land.
