Early Life and Education
Jeremy Fish was born in Albany, New York. He grew up in upstate New York in a town called Saratoga Springs. In 1994, he moved to San Francisco to study art.
He attended the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI). In 1997, he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree. This degree showed he had completed a special art program. After finishing school, he worked in the screen printing business. He helped create designs for skateboard companies.
Cool Art Projects
Jeremy Fish has worked on many interesting art projects. His art often features animals, skulls, and other unique characters.
Collaborations with Nike
In 2006, the shoe company Nike Skateboarding released a special shoe. It was an Air Classic shoe with Jeremy Fish's artwork on it. However, Nike later decided to stop selling these shoes. They were not happy with how the design was embossed (raised) on the shoe.
Working with Aesop Rock
Jeremy Fish has also teamed up with the musician Aesop Rock. They started working together in 2005 when Aesop Rock moved to San Francisco.
In 2006, they created a book called The Next Best Thing. This book also came with a special 7-inch picture disk. Later, Jeremy Fish designed the artwork for Aesop Rock's album, None Shall Pass. In 2009, they worked together again on another project called Ghosts of the Barbary Coast.
Art Shows Around the World
In 2008, Jeremy Fish had an art show in Rome, Italy. The show was called Rome-antic Delusions. It featured many of his paintings, drawings, and screen prints. Much of the art for this show was created while he was in Rome.
The Silly Pink Bunnies
One of Jeremy Fish's most famous works is his Silly Pink Bunnies sculpture and mural. It was first seen in 2011. This artwork was located at the corner of Haight Street and Laguna Street in San Francisco. It showed a large, pink rabbit head with its mouth wide open. Inside its mouth, you could see a skull.
In 2013, the original Silly Pink Bunnies was removed because of construction. People loved the bunny so much that a special fundraising campaign was started. Over $50,000 was raised to build a permanent bronze bunny. This new sculpture would be placed near the original spot. The bronze bunny eventually found a home at the Haight Street Art Center.
Custom Pinball Machine
In 2013, Jeremy Fish worked on a fun project. He helped create a custom pinball machine. This was part of a project called "Bring Back The Arcade." He worked with a group called Tilt Warning Customs to make this unique game.
San Francisco City Hall Artist-in-Residence
In 2015, Jeremy Fish received a special honor. He was named the first Artist-in-Residence for San Francisco City Hall. This meant he got to create art inspired by the city. An art show called O Glorious City was held in November 2015 to show his work. A book of his art, "O Glorious City: A Love Letter to San Francisco," was also published.
Personal Life
Jeremy Fish has often used a barter system for his work. This means he sometimes trades his artwork or murals instead of getting paid with money. For example, he has traded art for meals at restaurants or for a place to use as an art studio. He has moved his studio many times, finding new spaces when they became available. To save money, he has also lived in unusual places, including a closet.
In late 2014, Jeremy Fish had a health issue. He had a brain aneurysm that needed surgery. He recovered from this surgery.
He was previously married to an artist named Jayde Fish. They divorced in 2019.
