Jessica Rothe began her acting career using her birth name, Jessica Rothenberg. From 2010 to 2013, she had small parts in TV shows like The Onion News Network. She also played supporting roles in independent films such as The Hot Flashes.
In 2011, she performed on stage for the first time in a play called The Dream of the Burning Boy. A critic from The New York Times said her performance was "impressive." In 2014, she and the cast of the series Next Time on Lonny were nominated for a Streamy Award.
In 2015, Rothe got bigger roles. She starred in the comedy film Lily & Kat and the crime drama The Preppie Connection. That same year, she was cast as Alexis in Damien Chazelle's musical film La La Land. Rothe was excited about the role because she always dreamed of a world where people could suddenly start singing and dancing. The movie came out in 2016 and was very successful with both critics and audiences.
In 2016, Rothe got her first main role in a TV series. She played Paige in the MTV comedy show Mary + Jane. This show was about two friends who ran a weed delivery service. Even though the show got mixed reviews, critics praised Rothe's acting.
Becoming a star (2017–present)

In 2017, Rothe starred in the horror film Happy Death Day. She played the main character, Theresa "Tree" Gelbman.
