Jessicah Lee Schipper (born on November 19, 1986) is an Australian former competitive swimmer. She was once the world record holder for the 200-metre butterfly race. Jessicah was really good at the 100-metre and 200-metre butterfly events. She won many gold medals at the Olympic Games and World Championships between 2004 and 2009.

Early Life and Training

Jessicah Schipper finished high school in 2003 at Pine Rivers State High School. She trained at the Redcliffe Leagues Lawnton club in Brisbane. Her coach was Ken Wood until after the 2008 Summer Olympics. After that, she trained with Stephan Widmar at the Commercial Swimming Club.

Jessicah's Swimming Journey

Jessicah first swam for Australia at the 2003 World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona. She won a bronze medal as part of the 4×100-metre medley relay team. A medley relay race involves four swimmers, each doing a different swimming style.

In 2004, she competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. She finished 4th in the 100-metre butterfly race. She also won a gold medal in the 4×100-metre medley relay. She swam the butterfly part of the race in the early rounds. In January 2005, she received the Order of Australia Medal for her achievements in sports. This is a special award given to Australians who have done great things.

At the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Jessicah won gold medals in both the 100-metre and 200-metre butterfly events. She also got a silver medal in the 50-metre butterfly. She teamed up with Sophie Edington, Leisel Jones, and Libby Lenton to set a new world record in the 4×100-metre medley relay. This gave her a third gold medal at that competition.

On August 17, 2006, Jessicah set a new world record in the women's 200-metre butterfly. This happened on the first night of the 2006 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships. Jessicah won the final with a time of 2 minutes and 5.40 seconds. This was faster than the old record set by Otylia Jędrzejczak.

Jessicah won the gold medal in the 200-metre butterfly at the 2007 World Aquatics Championships in Melbourne. She also won a silver medal in the 100-metre butterfly, coming in second to fellow Australian Libby Lenton.

Olympic Success in 2008

Jessicah qualified for both the 100-metre and 200-metre butterfly events at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. She won two bronze medals in her individual races: the 100-metre and 200-metre butterfly. Jessicah also won a gold medal as part of the 4×100-metre medley relay team. Her teammates were Leisel Jones, Libby Trickett, and Emily Seebohm.

After the Beijing Olympics, Jessicah changed coaches. She then joined the Commercial Swimming Club in Brisbane. There, she trained under Stephan Widmar, who had also coached her Australian relay teammates Leisel Jones and Libby Trickett.

Jessicah continued to perform well at the world championships. She earned a silver medal in the 100-metre butterfly. On another day, she won the 200-metre butterfly title again, setting a new world record. She beat Liu Zige by a small amount of time.

London Olympics 2012

In 2012, Jessicah qualified for the 100-metre and 200-metre butterfly events at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. She did not make it past the first round in the 100-metre race. In the 200-metre event, she made it to the semifinal. However, her time was not fast enough to reach the final race.
