Jessicah Lee Schipper, born on November 19, 1986, is a famous Australian swimmer. She used to hold the world record for the 200-meter butterfly race. Jessicah was amazing at swimming the 100-meter and 200-meter butterfly styles. She won many gold medals at the Olympic Games and the World Championships between 2004 and 2009.

Early Life and School

Jessicah Schipper finished high school in 2003. She attended Pine Rivers State High School.

Jessicah's Swimming Journey

Jessicah trained at the Redcliffe Leagues Lawnton club in Brisbane. Her coach was Ken Wood, a very experienced coach. She trained with him until after the 2008 Summer Olympics. After that, she joined the Commercial Swimming Club. There, she trained with Stephan Widmar.

First Big Competitions

Jessicah first swam for Australia at the 2003 World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona. She won a bronze medal as part of the 4×100-meter medley relay team.

In 2004, she went to the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. She finished 4th in the 100-meter butterfly race. She also helped her team win a gold medal in the 4×100-meter medley relay. She swam the butterfly part in the early races. In January 2005, she received the Order of Australia Medal for her great work in sports.

Commonwealth Games Success

At the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Jessicah won two gold medals. These were for the 100-meter and 200-meter butterfly events. She also won a silver medal in the 50-meter butterfly.

She teamed up with Sophie Edington, Leisel Jones, and Libby Lenton. Together, they set a new world record in the 4×100-meter medley relay. This gave her a third gold medal at that competition.

Setting World Records

On August 17, 2006, Jessicah set a new world record in the women's 200-meter butterfly. This happened at the start of the 2006 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships. Jessicah won the final race in 2 minutes and 5.40 seconds. This was faster than the old record of 2 minutes and 5.61 seconds.

At the 2007 World Aquatics Championships in Melbourne, Jessicah won gold in the 200-meter butterfly. She also got a silver medal in the 100-meter butterfly. Another Australian swimmer, Libby Lenton, won the gold in that race.

Beijing Olympics 2008

Jessicah qualified for both the 100-meter and 200-meter butterfly races at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. She won two bronze medals in her individual races. These were for the 100-meter and 200-meter butterfly.

Jessicah also won a gold medal with the 4×100-meter medley relay team. Her teammates were Leisel Jones, Libby Trickett, and Emily Seebohm.

After the Beijing Olympics, Jessicah changed coaches. She left Ken Wood. She then joined the Commercial Swimming Club in Brisbane. There, she trained with Stephan Widmar. He had also coached her relay teammates, Leisel Jones and Libby Trickett.

Jessicah continued to do well at world championships. She won a silver medal in the 100-meter butterfly. She also kept her 200-meter butterfly title. She set a new world record in that race, beating Liu Zige.

London Olympics 2012

In 2012, Jessicah again qualified for the 100-meter and 200-meter butterfly events. She did not make it past the first races in the 100-meter event. She made it to the semifinal for the 200-meter race, but not the final. Her time in the 200-meter semifinal was slower than her best time.
