Jevan Bryce Snead (born September 2, 1987 – died September 21, 2019) was an American football quarterback. He played college football for the University of Mississippi. Before that, he was with the Texas Longhorns football team. He left Texas when Colt McCoy became the main quarterback.

After college, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed him as a free agent. However, he was later released. He also spent some time with the Tampa Bay Storm before the regular season began.

Early Life and High School Football

Jevan Snead was a top football player in high school. He played for Stephenville High School in Texas. He was named an All-American by Parade magazine in 2006. He also earned an invitation to the Elite 11 Quarterback Camp.

Snead played in the 2006 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He threw for 147 yards and two touchdowns in that game. This was the second-highest passing yards in the game's history.

He first planned to go to the University of Florida. But he changed his mind to be closer to home in Texas. He chose to play for the Texas Longhorns.

His last high school game was a close loss in the state semi-finals. He played against Dallas Highland Park. That team's quarterback was Matthew Stafford, who later became a famous NFL player.

In 2014, Jevan was honored by his high school. He was inducted into the Stephenville High School Hall of Fame.

After the 2005 season, star quarterback Vince Young left for the NFL. This opened up the quarterback spot for the Texas Longhorns. Jevan Snead, a new student, competed for the job. He was up against Colt McCoy, who was a year ahead.

McCoy eventually won the starting position. This meant Snead played less as the backup quarterback.

In a game against the Kansas State Wildcats, McCoy got injured. Snead stepped in to play. He helped the team almost come back from a big deficit. Even though they lost, Snead showed great skill. Coach Mack Brown praised his performance.

Later that season, McCoy was injured again in a game against Texas A&M. Snead came in with little time left. He tried to win the game, but his pass was intercepted, and Texas lost.

Playing for the Ole Miss Rebels

In January 2007, Snead moved to the University of Mississippi. He joined the Ole Miss Rebels football team. Due to transfer rules, he had to sit out the 2007 season. He then had three years left to play.

In 2008, Snead became the starting quarterback for Ole Miss. He had a strong season, throwing for 2,470 yards. He also had 23 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. The Rebels finished with an 8-4 record. This made them eligible for a bowl game for the first time since 2003.

The Rebels played against #7 Texas Tech in the 2009 Cotton Bowl Classic. They won the game 47–34. Snead played very well, completing 18 of 29 passes for 292 yards. He also threw three touchdowns.

The 2009 season started with Ole Miss ranked #8 in the country. Snead and many other players got the swine flu. But it did not stop him from playing. The Rebels finished the season 9-4 overall. They won the 2010 Cotton Bowl against Oklahoma State. Snead was injured during that game but returned to finish.

After the 2009 season, Snead decided to enter the 2010 NFL Draft. His total passing yards at Ole Miss rank him among the top quarterbacks in the school's history.

Professional Football Career

Joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Many experts thought Snead would be a top quarterback pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. However, he was not chosen by any team. After the draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed him in April 2010.

He was released by the Buccaneers in July 2010. This was to make space for a new player. He later re-signed with them in August when their starting quarterback got injured. But he was cut again before the regular season started.

Playing for the Tampa Bay Storm

In January 2011, Snead signed with the Tampa Bay Storm. This team plays in the Arena Football League. However, he was released before their season began in March.

Life After Football

After his football career, Jevan Snead worked as a salesman. He sold oil field supplies in San Antonio, Texas.

Death

Jevan Snead passed away on September 21, 2019. After his football career, he experienced health challenges. He had memory problems, which his family believed were related to concussions he suffered while playing football. Following his wishes, his brain was donated for scientific study. This was to help learn more about how football injuries can affect the brain.
