Leroy Jevon Carter (/dʒəˈvɒn/ JƏ-von; born September 14, 1995) is an American professional basketball player. He plays for the Chicago Bulls in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Before joining the NBA, he played college basketball for the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Jevon Carter is known for his strong defense. As a point guard for the Mountaineers, he won several awards for being a top defensive player. These awards include the NABC Defensive Player of the Year and the Lefty Driesell Award. He won these awards in both his junior and senior years. In his final college season, he also won the first-ever Naismith Defensive Player of the Year award.

High School Basketball Journey
Jevon Carter played basketball at Proviso East High School in Maywood, Illinois. During high school, he mostly played without the ball. From 2011 to 2012, he played for Team NLP in AAU games. A famous teammate of his was Jalen Brunson.
Jevon was seen as a good player by scouts, ranking as the No. 299 player in his class of 2014. He received offers from several colleges. However, he decided to play for West Virginia.
College Career Highlights
At West Virginia, Jevon changed his position to point guard. He quickly became known as one of the best defensive players in the Big 12 Conference. He was a key part of "Press Virginia," a special defense used by coach Bob Huggins. This defense aimed to force opponents to make many mistakes.
Jevon became a starter in his second year. He averaged 9.5 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.
Junior Year Success
In his junior season (2016–17), Jevon averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. He earned many awards for his amazing defense. He was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. He also won the Lefty Driesell Award and the NABC Defensive Player of the Year. These awards recognized him as the best defensive player in the entire country.
After his junior year, Jevon thought about joining the 2017 NBA draft. But he decided to return to West Virginia for his senior season instead.
Senior Year Achievements
Before his senior season (2017–18), Jevon was chosen for the preseason All-Big 12 team. On November 30, 2017, he became West Virginia University's all-time leader in steals. He passed the previous record of 252 steals.
On March 3, 2018, Jevon made history. He became the first player from a major conference to reach 1500 points, 500 rebounds, 500 assists, and 300 steals in his college career.
On March 12, 2018, Jevon was named Academic All-American of the Year for Division I men's basketball. This award recognizes student-athletes who are excellent in both sports and academics.
For the 2017–18 season, Jevon was named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press. He also won the 2018 Senior CLASS Award. This award celebrates loyalty and achievement for staying in school. It is given to the most outstanding senior student-athlete in men's basketball. Jevon was the second player from West Virginia University to win this award.
Jevon Carter won many awards for his defense in his senior year. These included Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, NABC Defensive Player of the Year, Lefty Driesell Player of the Year, and the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year. He was the first player to win the Lefty Driesell Player of the Year more than once. He also won the first-ever Naismith Defensive Player of the Year award.

Professional Basketball Career
Memphis Grizzlies (2018–2019)
On June 21, 2018, the Memphis Grizzlies picked Jevon Carter in the NBA draft. He was the 32nd player chosen overall. He officially signed with the Grizzlies on July 12, 2018.
During his first year, Jevon also played for the Memphis Hustle. This is the Grizzlies' team in the NBA G League, which is like a development league. Jevon made his NBA debut on December 15, 2018. He scored 11 points in that game. On April 10, 2019, he scored a career-high 32 points against the Golden State Warriors.
Phoenix Suns (2019–2021)
On July 7, 2019, Jevon was traded to the Phoenix Suns. In August 2020, during the special "NBA Bubble" games, he scored a season-high 20 points. He made 6 out of 9 three-point shots in that game.
On November 21, 2020, Jevon signed a new 3-year contract with the Suns. In 2021, he and the Suns made it all the way to the 2021 NBA Finals. However, they lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in six games.
Brooklyn Nets (2021–2022)
On August 6, 2021, Jevon was traded to the Brooklyn Nets. He played for the Nets until February 22, 2022, when he was released from the team.
Milwaukee Bucks (2022–2023)
Jevon signed with the Milwaukee Bucks on February 24, 2022. On April 1, in his first game starting for the Bucks, he scored 18 points and had 8 assists.
He re-signed with the Bucks on July 6, 2022. On November 9, 2022, Jevon had an amazing game. He scored a career-high 36 points and also had 12 assists in a double-overtime win.
Chicago Bulls (2023–Present)
On July 10, 2023, Jevon Carter signed a 3-year contract with the Chicago Bulls. He continues to play for them today.
