Jewfish is a small area in Monroe County, Florida, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.

You can find Jewfish in the upper part of the Florida Keys, specifically on Key Largo. It's located right off U.S. Route 1, also known as the Overseas Highway. It sits just west of North Key Largo, which is a special area called a census-designated place (CDP).

Even though it's small, Jewfish has a few places to visit. You can find a hotel, a restaurant, and a marina there.

How Jewfish Got Its Name

The name "Jewfish" comes from a very large saltwater fish. This fish is now called the Atlantic goliath grouper. Long ago, it was known as the "jewfish" and was considered a tasty meal.

When Jewfish Had a Post Office

A post office was opened in Jewfish in 1912. It served the community for a few years. However, it closed down in 1921.

Jewfish Creek and Its Name

Jewfish is right next to Jewfish Creek. This is an inlet of water that has a bridge crossing over it, called the Jewfish Creek Bridge. In 2002, local leaders in Monroe County decided to keep the name of the creek as it was.
