Jharal Yow Yeh (born December 22, 1989) is an Australian radio presenter and a former professional rugby league player. He played as a winger or centre for the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL. Jharal also represented Australia and Queensland in the State of Origin series. He was also part of the Indigenous All Stars team. Jharal spent his entire club career with the Broncos, but his playing days were cut short due to a serious leg injury.

Early Life and Heritage

Jharal Yow Yeh was born in Brisbane, Queensland. His mother is Rhonda Yow Yeh. Jharal is an Aboriginal Australian from the Margany tribe. He also has family roots from China and Vanuatu. His last name, Yow Yeh, comes from the Mandarin Chinese language. His great-great-grandfather was Chinese and lived in Vanuatu.

Jharal is related to Kevin Yow Yeh, who was also a rugby league player for the Balmain Tigers. Kevin passed away before Jharal was born. Although often called Jharal's great-uncle, they were actually third cousins.

School and Junior Rugby

Jharal went to Ferny Grove State High School. He finished his senior year there in 2006. In 2007, Jharal played in the junior system for the Parramatta Eels. After one season, his scholarship was ended. A coach told him he might not make it to the top level of rugby. Jharal later said he felt lost after hearing that news.

After school, Jharal played junior football for West Arana Hills and Norths Devils. He then joined the Brisbane Broncos' Under-20s team. In 2008, he was named in the National Youth Competition's team of the year. This showed he was a rising star.

Professional Playing Career

Jharal Yow Yeh made his first appearance in the National Rugby League (NRL) for the Brisbane Broncos. This happened in Round 1 of the 2009 NRL season. His debut game was at Suncorp Stadium against the North Queensland Cowboys.

Representative Honours

In 2010, Jharal was chosen for the Indigenous All Stars team. That same year, he had a leg injury and missed five rounds of games. He was also named to the Queensland rugby league team for Game II of the 2010 State of Origin series. However, he was not needed to play in that game.

Jharal did play for Queensland in the 2011 State of Origin series. He scored his first State of Origin try in his very first game. In the same year, he was selected for the Australian national team. He filled in for injured players like Lote Tuqiri and Darius Boyd.

The injury was so severe that his 2012 season ended right there. On April 28, 2013, Jharal tried to return to rugby league. He played for the Norths Devils.

In March 2014, Jharal Yow Yeh announced his retirement from the game. He was unable to fully recover from the leg injury he got in 2012.
