Jharal Yow Yeh, born on December 22, 1989, is an Australian radio host and a former professional rugby league player. He played for the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL. Jharal also represented Australia and the Queensland in the State of Origin series. He was also a part of the Indigenous All Stars team. Jharal Yow Yeh played his entire club career with the Broncos. His playing career ended early because of a serious leg injury.

Early Life and Background

Jharal Yow Yeh was born in Brisbane, Queensland. His mother is Rhonda Yow Yeh. Jharal is an Aboriginal Australian from the Margany tribe. He also has some Chinese and Ni-Vanuatu family roots. His last name, Yow Yeh, comes from Mandarin Chinese. His great-great-grandfather was Chinese and lived in Vanuatu.

Jharal is related to Kevin Yow Yeh, a former player for the Balmain Tigers. Kevin passed away before Jharal was born. Even though Kevin is often called Jharal's great-uncle, they were actually third cousins.

School and Junior Football

Jharal went to Ferny Grove State High School. He finished his senior year there in 2006. In 2007, Jharal played in the junior system for the Parramatta Eels. He played there for one season. However, he was told by a recruitment chief that he would not make it to the top level. Jharal later said he felt lost after hearing that news.

After school, Jharal played junior football for West Arana Hills and Norths Devils. He then played for the Brisbane Broncos in the Under-20s team. In 2008, he was even named in the National Youth Competition's team of the year.

Professional Playing Career

Jharal Yow Yeh made his first appearance in the National Rugby League for the Brisbane Broncos. This happened in Round 1 of the 2009 NRL season. He played against the North Queensland Cowboys at Suncorp Stadium.

Key Achievements and Injuries

In 2010, Jharal was chosen for the Indigenous All Stars team. That same year, he hurt his leg and missed five games. He was also named for the Queensland rugby league team for Game II of the 2010 State of Origin series. However, he was not needed to play in that game.

He did play for Queensland in the 2011 State of Origin series. He scored his first try in a State of Origin game during his debut in Game I. In the same year, he was selected for the Australian national rugby league team. He filled in for injured wingers Lote Tuqiri and Darius Boyd.

On November 3, 2011, Jharal Yow Yeh was named international rookie of the year. This award was given at the annual RLIF Awards dinner in London.

Jharal played in the 2012 NRL All Stars Game. He was the right winger for the Indigenous All Stars team. He started the 2012 NRL season strongly. He scored an important try against the Parramatta Eels, helping the Broncos win 18–6.

Career-Ending Injury

In Round 4 of the 2012 NRL season, Jharal suffered a very serious leg injury. He broke his lower right leg while playing against the South Sydney Rabbitohs. At the time of his injury, the Broncos were losing 12–0. But they went on to win the game 20–12. However, Jharal's 2012 season was over. His injury was described as "motorbike-like" because of how severe it was.

On April 28, 2013, Jharal Yow Yeh returned to rugby league. He played as a second-rower for the Norths Devils.

In March 2014, Jharal Yow Yeh announced his retirement from the game. He was unable to fully recover from the leg injury he got in 2012.

Life After Playing Rugby League

After retiring from the NRL, Jharal Yow Yeh continued to work with the Broncos. He took on a role in the community. Jharal is also a host on Triple A Murri radio. He works closely with a group called Bloke in a Bar.

Jharal also shared that he faced challenges while recovering from his ankle injury. He worked hard to overcome these difficulties. He then became the Broncos Indigenous Support Officer. In this role, he helps and supports Indigenous players.
