Jimmy Hal King (born August 9, 1973) is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He played in the NBA and other basketball leagues. Jimmy King is best known for being part of the famous University of Michigan Wolverines "Fab Five" team.
This team included other great players like Ray Jackson, Juwan Howard, Chris Webber, and Jalen Rose. As freshmen and sophomores, they reached the championship games of the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship in both 1992 and 1993. Jimmy King played all four years at Michigan. In his senior year in 1995, he averaged 15 points per game.

College Basketball Career
Becoming a High School Star
Before joining college, Jimmy King was a top high school basketball player. He played at Plano East Senior High School in Plano, Texas. Plano is a city located north of Dallas, Texas. His skills earned him the title of high school All-American.
Joining the Fab Five
Jimmy King was a key member of the University of Michigan Wolverines "Fab Five". This famous group also included Ray Jackson, Juwan Howard, Chris Webber, and Jalen Rose. They were known for their exciting style of play.
As freshmen and sophomores, the Fab Five made it to the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship games. They reached the finals in 1992 and again in 1993. Jimmy King was a starter for the Michigan teams that went to the NCAA tournament four times during his college career.
Professional Basketball Journey
Starting in the NBA
In 1995, the Toronto Raptors picked Jimmy King in the 1995 NBA draft. He was the 35th player chosen overall. During the 1995–96 season, he played 62 games for the Raptors. He averaged about 4.5 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game.
In July 1996, he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. However, he did not play for them and was later released.
Playing in Other Leagues
After his time with the Raptors, Jimmy King played for other teams. He spent most of the 1996–97 season with the Quad City Thunder. This team was part of the CBA. He also signed a short contract with the Denver Nuggets, playing in two games for them.
King played several seasons in Europe. He also continued to play in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). In 1998, he was named the league's Most Valuable Player (MVP) while playing for the Quad City Thunder.
Representing the USA
Jimmy King also played for the U.S. national team. He competed in the 1998 FIBA World Championship. His team won the bronze medal in this international competition. He also played for the Asheville Altitude in the NBDL.

New Career Paths
After his basketball career, Jimmy King explored new opportunities. In 2006, he worked as a financial advisor for Merrill Lynch. This job was on Wall Street in New York City.
During the 2008–09 Michigan Wolverines season, King also worked as a radio commentator. He helped describe the games for listeners.

Currently, Jimmy King is a Vice President at TruChampions. This organization helps high school student-athletes. They guide young players and their families to get offers from colleges.
Coaching Career
In 2016, Jimmy King started coaching basketball. He became the head coach for the men's basketball team at Ecorse Community High School. This school is located in Ecorse, Michigan.
