Jimmy Hal King (born August 9, 1973) is an American former professional basketball player. He played in the NBA and other leagues. Jimmy King is well-known for being part of the famous "Fab Five" team at the University of Michigan. This team included Ray Jackson, Juwan Howard, Chris Webber, and Jalen Rose. They made it to the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship games in 1992 and 1993. King played all four years at Michigan and scored about 15 points per game in his final year, 1995.

College Basketball Journey

Jimmy King was a key member of the University of Michigan Wolverines "Fab Five" basketball team. This group also featured Ray Jackson, Juwan Howard, Chris Webber, and Jalen Rose. As freshmen and sophomores, they reached the 1992 and 1993 NCAA Championship games. King was a starter for teams that went to the tournament four times.

High School Achievements

Before college, Jimmy King was a top high school basketball player. He attended Plano East Senior High School in Plano, Texas. Plano is a city located north of Dallas, Texas. He was recognized as an All-American player during his high school years.

Fab Five Legacy

Even though some of the Fab Five's final four appearances were later changed due to rules, Jimmy King was not involved in any problems. He was not among the players who faced investigations related to the University of Michigan basketball scandal.

Professional Basketball Career

The Toronto Raptors picked Jimmy King in the second round of the 1995 NBA draft. He was the 35th player chosen overall. During the 1995–96 season, he played 62 games for the Raptors. He averaged 4.5 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game.

Moving to Other Teams

In July 1996, King was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. This happened before the 1996–97 season began. However, the Mavericks later released him. He then played most of the 1996–97 season with the Quad City Thunder in the CBA. He also signed a short contract with the Denver Nuggets, playing in two games for them.

Playing Overseas and in the CBA

King spent several seasons playing basketball in Europe. He also played in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). In 1998, he was named the league's Most Valuable Player (MVP) while playing for the Quad City Thunder.

International Play and Later Career

Jimmy King also represented the US national team. He played in the 1998 FIBA World Championship and helped the team win a bronze medal. Later, he played for the Asheville Altitude in the NBDL. His last chance to return to the NBA was before the 2000–01 NBA season. He was the final player cut by the Indiana Pacers, who were Eastern Conference champions at the time.

Life After Basketball

After his playing career, Jimmy King explored other paths. In 2006, he shared that he was working as a financial advisor. He was helping people with their money at Merrill Lynch on Wall Street.

Broadcasting and Coaching

During the 2008–09 Michigan Wolverines season, King worked as a radio commentator. He helped describe the games for listeners. More recently, King became the Vice President at TruChampions. This company helps high school athletes get offers from colleges. In 2016, King started coaching basketball. He became the head coach for the boys' basketball team at Ecorse Community High School in Ecorse, Michigan.

The Fab Five Documentary

In 2011, a documentary called The Fab Five was released by ESPN films. This film brought a lot of attention to the famous Michigan team. It led to many discussions in the media about the players and their time at Michigan.
