Jimmy Lin Chih-ying (Chinese: 林志穎; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Lîm Chì-éng, born on October 15, 1974) is a famous person from Taiwan. He is known for being a singer, an actor, and a race car driver.

Early Life and Rise to Fame

Jimmy Lin was born in Taipei, Taiwan, on October 15, 1974. He was the second of five children in his family. When he was 16, he was studying drama and photography. He was discovered during a school performance because he was very popular on campus.

At first, Jimmy wasn't sure about joining the entertainment world. But he later decided to take the offer from his manager. In 1992, when he was just 17, he became a huge star very quickly. This happened after he released his first album, Not Every Love Song Has Fond Memories. His fame spread all over Asia, and people started calling him "Little Whirlwind."

He was also known as one of the "Little Four Heavenly Kings" in Taiwan. Jimmy Lin became the youngest singer to ever hold a concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum. He was only 18 years old at the time. After that, he released many more albums and starred in several movies and TV shows. He also won many awards for his music.

In 1994, Jimmy had to pause his career to complete military service. This is a required time in the military for young men in Taiwan. Even though he knew it would affect his career, he didn't ask for special treatment. He joined the military in October 1994. He served for two years, mostly in the entertainment part of the military. After his service, he returned to acting and singing.

Jimmy Lin's Diverse Career

After his military service, it was a bit tough for Jimmy to get back into showbiz. Many new stars had appeared. But he worked very hard and even started his own company, Jimmy Creative. This company helped produce his next five albums. One of his most famous albums from this time was "Scarecrow" (1999).

Racing Cars

In 1997, Jimmy decided to follow his dream of car racing. He had a serious crash that year that almost cost him his life. His car exploded seconds after he managed to get out of it. Even after this accident, he didn't give up. He kept working to become a better racer. He often says, "When I race, I am not racing against others, but against myself."

Today, Jimmy Lin is one of the top rally racers in Mainland China. In 2005, he joined Hong He, which is a top racing team in China. He trained with a famous racing coach. Jimmy hopes to become a Formula 3 racer and race full-time. In 2005, he and two friends started the Ping Tzuo Racing Advisory Company.

On October 23, 2005, Jimmy hosted the first "Jimmy Cup." This was a racing event mainly for male celebrities. The goal was to teach people about traffic safety and to promote car racing. In 2006, he created the Jimmy Lin Rally Team. His team won 3rd place overall in the 2006 China Rally Championship. In 2008, he joined the China F1 TianRong Powerboat Racing team. He planned to train to get his F1 powerboat racing license. In 2011, he announced he would stop rally racing to spend more time on acting and singing.

Acting and Singing

While racing, Jimmy also continued his acting career. After his album "Going for a Walk" in 2000, he focused more on filming. A big TV show he starred in was Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils (2003). In this show, he played the role of Prince Duan Yu.

Even though he hasn't released many albums since 2006, Jimmy still sings theme songs for TV shows and movies. He also performs live at many events. He was one of the performers at the "Beijing 2008" Olympic Cultural Festival in 2005. In 2007, he starred in his first Taiwanese idol series, My Lucky Star. This show was number one for 13 weeks in a row. In 2010, he starred in his first Chinese modern series, "Single Princess and Blind Dates."

On October 17, 2008, Jimmy held his first concert in Shanghai, China, after 14 years. It was a huge success with 25,000 fans. They even sang "Happy Birthday" to celebrate his 34th birthday. In 2009, he held another concert in Shanghai. His family attended, and he sang a song with his younger brother, Jason Lin.
