Jing: King of Bandits (called Ō Dorobō Jing in Japan) is a Japanese manga series. It was written and drawn by Yuichi Kumakura. The story is about a young boy named Jing. Even though he is young, he is known as the "King of Bandits."
Jing travels the world with his friend, Kir. Kir is a talking albatross bird. Together, they look for amazing treasures and go on exciting adventures. They are very good at stealing things that seem impossible to get. They also outsmart many enemies who try to stop them.
The series often uses names that sound like drinks for characters and places. For example, Jing and Kir have a special attack called "Kir Royale."
In 2002, some of the manga stories were made into an anime TV show. This show had 13 episodes. Later, in 2004, a three-part animated series called Jing: King of Bandits in Seventh Heaven was also made.
Contents
The Story of Jing
Jing: King of Bandits tells many short stories. Each one is usually a new adventure for Jing, the Bandit King. Even though Jing is famous, many bad guys don't expect him to be a young kid. This often surprises them!
The stories in the first manga series are often funny and cartoon-like. In each adventure, Jing looks for a new treasure. He often meets a girl who helps him along the way. There's always an enemy who wants to protect the treasure or get it first.
Jing travels to many amazing places. These include a city made of clocks, a desert with hot, flowing lava, and even a super-secure prison. He always finds a way to escape and get the treasure. Sometimes, he gets it in a surprising way! Jing's actions often change things for the better in the places he visits.
The second manga series, Jing: King of Bandits: Twilight Tales, also has seven volumes. In these stories, Jing doesn't always steal every treasure he tries to get. Sometimes, he has to fight the treasure itself or even destroy it. There are also stories about Jing's past as a child. Even then, he called himself the King of Bandits.
Main Characters
Jing
Jing is the main hero of the series. He is a young thief with black hair and a cool orange coat. He is very skilled, but he acts relaxed and cheerful. He picks his targets almost on a whim. People are often surprised when they meet him because he looks small and ordinary. But his skills as a thief are unmatched!
Jing travels with his best friend, Kir. Kir is a talking albatross. They can combine to use a powerful attack called "Kir Royale." This attack shoots a green ball of energy from Kir's mouth. Jing also has a hidden knife in his sleeve. He can turn almost anything into a weapon, like wires or an umbrella. His best weapon is his mind. He is very smart and good at planning. He can also think quickly when things don't go as planned. Jing has a special green necklace, but its purpose is a mystery.
Kir
Kir is Jing's funny sidekick and partner. He is a talking bird with a big personality. Even though he's a bird, he often tries to flirt with human women, but they always say no! Kir is a bit more interested in money than Jing. But he is a loyal friend and a very important partner.
When Kir joins with Jing's right arm, he can fire the "Kir Royale" energy ball. This attack seems very powerful. In this combined form, Kir can also help Jing fly a little.
Postino
Postino is another character who appears sometimes. He is a mail carrier who travels everywhere on his motorcycle. He seems to show up exactly when Jing needs help. He delivers a clue or explains something important, then leaves. He is a funny character who adds to the strange and sometimes illogical world Jing lives in.
