Joaquín Peiró Lucas (born January 29, 1936 – died March 18, 2020) was a famous Spanish football player and coach. He was known for playing as an attacking midfielder, which means he helped both defend and score goals. Peiró had a long and successful career, playing for big clubs in Spain and Italy, and also representing his country.

Playing Career Highlights

Joaquín Peiró started his amazing football journey at Atlético Madrid in his hometown of Madrid. He played for Atlético for eight seasons, scoring 95 goals in 166 games in La Liga, which is Spain's top football league.

Moving to Italy

In 1962, Peiró moved to Italy to play for Torino. After two years, he joined Inter Milan, one of the biggest clubs in the world. At Inter, he achieved great success. He won two Serie A titles, which is Italy's top league. He also helped Inter win the European Cup in 1965, which is the most important club competition in Europe. Peiró also won the Intercontinental Cup twice with Inter.

After his time at Inter, Peiró played for Roma for four seasons. He then returned to Atlético Madrid for a short period before retiring as a player.

Playing for Spain

Peiró also proudly represented the Spanish national team. He played in two FIFA World Cup tournaments, in 1962 and 1966. This shows he was one of the best players in Spain during his time.

Coaching Career

After he stopped playing, Joaquín Peiró became a football manager. He coached several teams in Spain.

Managing Málaga

One of his most notable achievements as a manager was with Málaga. He helped Málaga get promoted to La Liga in 1999 by winning the Segunda División (Spain's second division). He also led Málaga to win the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2002. This was a big success for the club.
