Joseph Thomas Porcaro (born April 29, 1930 – died July 6, 2020) was a talented American jazz drummer. He was known for his amazing drumming skills. Joe Porcaro also taught music to many students. He came from a musical family, and his three sons became famous musicians in the band Toto.

His Family and Music
Joe Porcaro's family came from Italy. His grandfather was a percussionist, starting a musical tradition. Joe became a well-known jazz drummer and percussionist. His three sons also became very famous musicians.
Jeff, Mike, and Steve Porcaro were all part of the rock band Toto. Jeff was a drummer, Mike played bass, and Steve played keyboards. Joe also had a daughter, Joleen Porcaro Duddy. Her children, Chase and Paige Duddy, formed the music group XYLO.
His Music Career
Joe Porcaro played drums and percussion for many famous artists. He recorded music with stars like Madonna, Pink Floyd, Frank Sinatra, and Sarah Vaughan. He also worked on music for movies. He played for film scores by famous composers like John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith. His son Steve Porcaro also composed film music with him.
Joe Porcaro helped start a music school in California. It was first called the Los Angeles Music Academy (LAMA). Now it is known as the Los Angeles College of Music (LACM). He also led a music group with his friend Emil Richards. Emil played the vibraphone and collected percussion instruments from all over the world.
His Later Years
Joe Porcaro passed away at the age of 90. He died on July 6, 2020, in California.
