John Albert Nordberg (June 18, 1926 – March 12, 2021) was an important U.S. federal judge. He served on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. This court handles many different legal cases in northern Illinois.

Early Life and Career Path
John Albert Nordberg was born in Evanston, Illinois in June 1926. He went to Carleton College to study. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946. He worked as an Electronic Technician Mate Third Class.
After the war, Nordberg earned a law degree in 1950 from the University of Michigan Law School. He then worked as a private lawyer in Chicago, Illinois, from 1950 to 1976.
Working in Local Government
Nordberg held several important roles in local government. He was a Magistrate for the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, from 1957 to 1964. He also served as a district attorney for Wilmette Park from 1958 to 1976.
He was a village attorney for Glenview, Illinois, between 1961 and 1965. Later, he held the same job in Morton Grove, Illinois, from 1969 to 1974. From 1976 to 1982, Nordberg served as a Judge for the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois.
Becoming a Federal Judge
On March 11, 1982, President Ronald Reagan chose John Nordberg to become a federal judge. He was nominated for a position on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. This position had become open when Judge Bernard Martin Decker left.
The United States Senate approved Nordberg's nomination on April 20, 1982. He officially started his new role as a judge on April 21, 1982.
Senior Status and Later Years
On June 18, 1994, Judge Nordberg took on "senior status". This means a judge can reduce their workload but still hear cases. He continued to hear cases until April 21, 2014, when he took "inactive senior status." This meant he stopped hearing cases.
John Albert Nordberg passed away on March 12, 2021. He died in Northbrook, Illinois, at the age of 94.
