John Arthur Jarvis (born February 24, 1872 – died May 9, 1933) was a super talented swimmer and water polo player from England. He was one of the best amateur athletes around in his time. He proudly represented Great Britain in three Olympic Games!

John Jarvis was born in Leicester, England. He became a very well-known athlete in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

An Olympic Champion

John Jarvis became famous at the 1900 Summer Olympics held in Paris, France. He was an amazing freestyle swimmer. He won two gold medals in swimming! One was for the 1000-meter freestyle race, and the other was for the 4000-meter freestyle race. That's a lot of swimming!

But wait, there's more! John Jarvis was also part of the water polo team. His team won a gold medal in the water polo tournament at the same 1900 Paris Olympics. This made him a triple gold medalist at one Olympic Games!

More Olympic Adventures

John Jarvis didn't stop at the 1900 Olympics. He also competed in the 1906 Intercalated Games in Athens, Greece. These games were like a special Olympic event held between the main ones.

At the 1906 Games, he won three more medals! He earned a silver medal in the 1-mile swimming race. He also got two bronze medals: one for the 400-meter freestyle and another for the 4x250-meter freestyle relay.

He even participated in the 1908 Summer Olympics. John Jarvis was truly a dedicated and skilled athlete.

A Place in History

John Jarvis's amazing achievements were remembered long after his time. In 1968, he was honored by being inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame. This special place recognizes the greatest swimmers and water polo players from around the world. He was named an "Honor Swimmer" for his incredible contributions to the sport.
