John O'Hurley (born October 9, 1954) is a famous American actor, comedian, and TV host. He is best known for playing J. Peterman on the TV show Seinfeld. He also voiced King Neptune on SpongeBob SquarePants. From 2006 to 2010, he hosted the game show Family Feud. O'Hurley also hosted To Tell the Truth from 2000 to 2002.

Early Life and Education

John O'Hurley was born in Kittery, Maine. His mother, Jean, was a housewife. His father, John O'Hurley Sr., was an ear, nose, and throat surgeon. John went to high school in different places. He later graduated from Providence College in 1976. He earned a degree in Theatre.

His older sister, Carol, passed away when she was 17. Because of this, John supports the Epilepsy Foundation. He has two younger twin brothers, Bruce and Neal. He also has a younger sister named Susan.

John O'Hurley's Acting Career

Playing J. Peterman in Seinfeld

On the popular TV show Seinfeld, John O'Hurley played J. Peterman. This character was a funny version of a real catalog company owner. O'Hurley played this role from 1995 until the show ended in 1998. He even invested in the real The J. Peterman Company. Since 1999, he has been a part-owner and a member of their board.

Dancing on Dancing with the Stars

John O'Hurley was a contestant on the very first season of Dancing with the Stars. This show aired in mid-2005. John and his dance partner, Charlotte Jørgensen, reached the final competition. They lost to soap opera star Kelly Monaco.

Many fans felt the results were unfair. So, the TV network announced a special "grudge match" episode. This rematch aired on September 20, 2005. This time, only viewer votes decided the winner.

O'Hurley and Jørgensen won the rematch! Their victory helped raise $126,000 for a charity called Golfers Against Cancer. After this, they even made a dance instruction video together.

Other Acting and Voice Roles

John O'Hurley has appeared in many other TV shows. He was in two episodes of Baywatch. He also had roles in Murder She Wrote and Drake & Josh.

Since 2002, he has hosted Purina's annual National Dog Show. This show airs every Thanksgiving.

He hosted the show for four seasons. He left the show in early 2010. He was replaced by Steve Harvey. O'Hurley later said the show became less family-friendly, which was one reason he left.

Personal Life and Interests

John O'Hurley is a self-taught pianist. He is also a trained singer. He has been composing music since he was a teenager. In 2004, he released two albums of his piano music. One song, "For Lisa," was written for his wife for their wedding day.

O'Hurley was married to Eva LaRue from 1992 to 1994. Since August 14, 2004, he has been married to Lisa Mesloh. They have one son together.

In May 2011, John O'Hurley received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. This award recognizes people who have made great contributions to American society. He is also a big fan of the Boston Red Sox baseball team.
