John Malcolm Taylor (born March 23, 1933 – died September 8, 1966) was a racing driver from England. He competed in Formula One races, which are a very high level of car racing. John took part in five World Championship Grand Prix races. He also raced in other Formula One events that were not part of the championship.
John Taylor's Racing Career
John Taylor started his Formula One journey on July 11, 1964. His first race was the 1964 British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch. He drove a special car called a Cooper–Ford T71/T73. This car was a mix of Formula One and Formula Two designs. During this race, he had a problem with his car's gearbox. This made him stop for a long time. He finished the race in fourteenth place.
Racing in 1965 and 1966
John did not race in the main Formula One World Championship in 1965. However, he continued to drive in other Formula One races. He came back to Grand Prix racing in 1966. This time, he drove a Brabham–BRM car. It was a two-liter car, and he raced it for a private team led by David Bridges.
His first race in 1966 was the 1966 French Grand Prix at Reims. In this race, he earned his only championship point. After that, he finished eighth in two more races. These were the 1966 British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch and the 1966 Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.
A Tragic Accident
John Taylor's racing career ended sadly. He had a crash during the 1966 German Grand Prix. This race took place at the famous Nürburgring track. On the very first lap of the race, his Brabham car crashed into another car. The other car was driven by Jacky Ickx.
John was badly hurt in the crash. He suffered serious burns. He was taken to the hospital. Sadly, he passed away from his injuries four weeks later.
