How John Tracy Was Created
John Tracy was one of the first characters to have a voice actor chosen. The actor, Ray Barrett, was very impressed with John's puppet. The puppet's face was designed to look like singer Adam Faith and actor Charlton Heston.
John Tracy's Story and Role
John is the third son of Jeff Tracy, who started International Rescue. John was named after the real-life astronaut John Glenn. Most stories say John is 24 years old and was born on October 8th.
John is very good at astronomy, which is the study of stars and space. He even wrote several popular books about it. He went to Harvard University and studied advanced telecommunications.
Because he is so smart and loves space, John is the perfect choice to live on Thunderbird 5. This is a space station that orbits Earth. From there, John listens for any calls for help from anywhere in the world. He usually stays in space, but he has helped with rescues on Earth too. People describe John as patient, kind, and very intelligent.
John Tracy in the 2004 Thunderbirds Movie
In the 2004 live-action Thunderbirds movie, John was played by actor Lex Shrapnel. In this movie, John is still kind and patient. He listens to his father, Jeff, and offers him encouragement.
During the movie, John is almost hurt when a villain called the Hood attacks Thunderbird 5. This attack was a trick to get International Rescue away from their secret base.
John Tracy in Thunderbirds Are Go (2015 TV Series)
In the newer Thunderbirds Are Go TV series, John is still the main person on Thunderbird 5. However, his job is much bigger now. He doesn't just receive calls; he also helps plan and coordinate rescue missions from space. In this series, John has red hair instead of blond.
This version of John is shown as being a bit quiet and likes to be by himself. He enjoys eating bagels, watching TV (his favorite show is Stingray), and looking at the stars. He prefers to stay in space and doesn't like spending too much time on Earth.
