He also played college football at Alabama State University. Before joining the NFL, he played for other teams such as the Las Vegas Outlaws and the Houston Texans.

Early Life and High School Sports

Johnny Huggins grew up in Zachary, Louisiana. He went to Northeast High School. While there, he was a talented athlete. He played three different sports. Johnny was named All-state in basketball. He also earned All-district honors in football.

College Football Career

After high school, Johnny received a scholarship to play football. He chose to attend Alabama State University. In his first year, he caught 6 passes for 94 yards. The next year, he played both quarterback and tight end. He caught 8 passes for 94 yards and scored one touchdown. He also threw for 395 yards and 3 touchdowns as a quarterback.

As a junior, he caught 15 passes for 196 yards and one touchdown. His senior year in 1998 was very successful. He caught 42 passes for 506 yards. He also scored 6 touchdowns. This great performance earned him a spot on the First-team All-SWAC team.
