Time with Mallorca
After winning the championship in Argentina in 2005, Jonás moved to Spain. He signed with the Spanish club Mallorca. He played there for three years, gaining valuable experience in European football.
Joining Newcastle United

He played his first game for Newcastle on 17 August 2008, at the start of the 2008–09 season. He played really well and helped his team get a 1–1 draw against the champions, Manchester United. Many people were impressed by his first game in the Premier League.
Jonás scored his first goal for Newcastle in a friendly match against Darlington on 18 July 2009. Newcastle won that game 7–2. He usually played on the right side of the field. But after another player left, he started playing on the left side. He worked well with his teammate José Enrique.
His first goal in a real competition for Newcastle was against Peterborough United on 7 November 2009. He dribbled past five players before scoring! He scored another amazing goal against Barnsley, shooting from far away. After that goal, he celebrated with his famous Spider-Man mask!

On the very last day of the season, Jonás was a hero! He helped Newcastle win 2–0 against West Ham United. He assisted the first goal and then scored the second goal himself. This win meant Newcastle stayed in the Premier League! Even though he left the club after that season, Jonás always had a strong connection with the Newcastle fans.
