Jonathan Lee Singleton (born September 18, 1991) is an American professional baseball player. He plays as a first baseman for the Houston Astros in Major League Baseball (MLB). He also played for the Milwaukee Brewers.
Jon grew up in Long Beach, California. The Philadelphia Phillies picked him in the 2009 draft. Later, he was traded to the Astros in 2011. He signed a big contract before playing his first MLB game in 2014. After some time, he moved to the minor leagues. He then played in the Mexican League. In 2023, he returned to MLB with the Brewers. He later rejoined the Houston Astros.

Jon Singleton played baseball at Millikan High School. This school is in Long Beach, California. He planned to play college baseball. He committed to California State University, Long Beach. This was before the 2009 baseball draft.
A Look at Jon Singleton's Career
Starting with the Philadelphia Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies chose Jon in the eighth round of the 2009 MLB Draft. Some experts thought he might be picked earlier. But his high school stats made him fall a bit. Jon started playing in the minor leagues. He played 31 games for the Gulf Coast League Phillies. In 2010, he played for the Class A Lakewood BlueClaws. He hit well, with a .290 average. He also hit 14 home runs and had 77 RBIs. Before the 2011 season, Baseball America called him a top prospect.
Playing for the Houston Astros
On July 29, 2011, Jon was part of a big trade. The Phillies sent him and other players to the Houston Astros. This trade was for player Hunter Pence. After this, Baseball America said Jon was the Astros' best young player. He was even chosen for the 2012 All-Star Futures Game. This game features baseball's rising stars.
After the 2013 season, the Astros added Jon to their main roster. On June 2, 2014, Jon signed a special contract. It was for five years and guaranteed him $10 million. This was the first time a player with no major league experience signed such a deal. The next day, Jon was called up to the major leagues. He joined the Astros from the Oklahoma City RedHawks.
Jon made his MLB debut on June 3, 2014. He played against the Los Angeles Angels. In his first game, he hit a home run! He also had two RBIs and a walk. His first home run was off pitcher Matt Shoemaker. A few days later, on June 8, Jon hit his first career grand slam. This big hit helped the Astros win 14–5 against the Minnesota Twins.
On August 2, 2014, Jon hit an exciting inside-the-park home run. This happened against the Toronto Blue Jays. The umpire first called him out. But the Astros' manager challenged the call. After a review, it was changed to a home run!
To start the 2015 season, Jon was sent to the AAA Fresno Grizzlies. On May 13, 2015, Jon had an amazing game. He got 10 RBIs, which included a grand slam and another home run. This set a new record for the Fresno team. Over just three games, he hit four home runs. Two of these were grand slams. He also had 18 RBIs in those three games. Jon left the Astros organization in 2018.
Playing in Mexico
On April 2, 2020, Jon signed with the Diablos Rojos del México. This team is in the Mexican League. He did not play that year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He was traded to another team, but then traded back. In 2021, he played 46 games for México. He had a great batting average of .321. He also hit 15 home runs and had 36 RBIs.
Time with the Milwaukee Brewers
On December 9, 2021, Jon signed a contract with the Milwaukee Brewers. He spent 2022 playing for the Triple-A Nashville Sounds. He hit 24 home runs and had 87 RBIs. He also led all minor league players in walks that year.
In November 2022, the Brewers added Jon to their main roster. He was later released by the Brewers in January 2023. But he signed another contract with them in February. He played 49 games for Nashville. He hit 10 home runs and had 29 RBIs. On June 3, 2023, the Brewers called Jon up to the major leagues. He played 11 games for Milwaukee. On June 17, he was moved off the team's main roster.
Back with the Houston Astros
On June 24, 2023, Jon rejoined the Houston Astros. He signed a minor league contract. He was sent to the Triple-A Sugar Land Space Cowboys. He played very well there. He hit 12 home runs and had 28 RBIs in 33 games.
The Astros called him back to the major leagues on August 8. He made his 2023 Astros debut that same day. He came into the game as a pinch hitter. He got a walk and then scored a run. This helped the Astros win 7–6.
Jon returned to Minute Maid Park, the Astros' home stadium, on August 11, 2023. This was his first time playing there since 2015. He had an amazing game! He hit two home runs. This was his first time hitting multiple home runs in an MLB game. He also had a career-high five RBIs. This helped the Astros win 11–3 against the Los Angeles Angels.
On September 10, 2024, Jon hit his first major league triple. This happened in a game against the Oakland Athletics. For the 2024 season, Jon played in 119 games. This was a career high for him. He hit 13 home runs and had 42 RBIs.
