Jonas Hayes was born on August 9, 1981. He is an American college basketball coach and a former player. Currently, he is the head coach for the Georgia State team.
Before this, he worked as an assistant coach for the Xavier Musketeers. He even became their interim head coach for a short time. Hayes also coached at Morehouse, South Carolina State, Belmont Abbey, and Georgia. As a player, he played college basketball for the Western Carolina Catamounts and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Playing College Basketball
Jonas Hayes and his twin brother, Jarvis, started playing basketball at Western Carolina University in 1999. They played for the Western Carolina Catamounts.
During his first year, Jonas scored about 8 points and grabbed nearly 5 rebounds per game. He was very good at shooting, making 63% of his shots. This was the best in his conference and among the top in NCAA Division I basketball. He played in 24 games that season. After one year, both brothers moved to the University of Georgia in 2000.
Jonas had to sit out his second year because of a transfer rule. In his third year, he averaged 7.2 points and 5 rebounds per game. He helped the Bulldogs reach the NCAA Division I Tournament. In one important game, he scored 14 points and got 14 rebounds. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 2004. He earned a degree in child and family development.
Coaching Career Highlights
After playing, Hayes started coaching at Frederick Douglass High School in Atlanta for one season. In 2005, he became an assistant coach at Morehouse College. He then moved to the South Carolina State Bulldogs as an assistant. In 2007, Belmont Abbey College hired him, and he stayed there until 2012.
In 2012, Hayes returned to his old school, the University of Georgia. He first worked as an operations coordinator for the men's basketball team. In 2013, he became an assistant coach. During his time there, the Bulldogs won 20 or more games in three seasons. They played in one NCAA Tournament and two NIT Tournaments. Hayes helped develop strong players like Marcus Thornton and Yante Maten. He stayed at Georgia until 2018.
In 2018, Hayes joined the Xavier Musketeers as an assistant coach. In 2021, he was promoted to associate head coach. After the head coach left in 2022, Hayes became the interim head coach. He led the Xavier team to win the NIT championship. This was only the second time the school had won this title.

On April 6, 2022, Jonas Hayes was announced as the new head coach for the Georgia State team.
Personal Life
Jonas Hayes has a twin brother named Jarvis. Jarvis was born five minutes before Jonas. Jarvis used to be a player in the National Basketball Association. Today, he works as an assistant coach for Jonas at Georgia State.
