About Jordan Mackampa
Jordan Mackampa was born in Zaire (now called the Democratic Republic of Congo) in 1994. His first language is French. In 1995, when he was very young, he and his mother moved to London, England.
Jordan started playing the guitar and writing his own music when he was 12 years old. He went to Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School in Coventry. As a teenager, he would record his music at a local youth center. Later, he studied music at the University of Northampton. Jordan has shared that famous soul singers like Marvin Gaye and Bill Withers helped shape his own musical style.
Jordan's Music Career
Jordan Mackampa began his music career by releasing his first collection of songs, called an EP, titled Physics in 2016. The next year, 2017, he released another EP called Tales from the Broken. He also got to tour with many other artists, including Rhiannon Giddens, Lewis Watson, and Jeremy Loops.
One of his songs, "Battlecry," became the opening theme for a British TV show called Our Girl for its third and fourth seasons, from 2017 to 2020. This song was also used in big advertising campaigns. It was featured in the 2019 "Use Your Voice" campaign for Levi's jeans and in a 2020 TV advert for Intel computers.
In 2017, Jordan signed a record deal with AWAL Recordings. He then released his first full studio album, Foreigner, in March 2020. This album talks about Jordan's own experiences growing up in England as a Congolese immigrant.
Jordan had plans for a big international tour and to perform at a festival called South by Southwest in 2020. However, both events had to be canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He released his third EP, Come Around, in January 2021. In December 2021, Jordan released a special limited edition vinyl record. It featured songs from his Come Around EP, recorded live at the famous Abbey Road Studios, and was called Live from Studio 2.
His song "Magic" was used in a 2021 TV advert in the UK for Boots Pharmacy. It was also featured in online Christmas adverts for J Crew, starring actors Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson. In 2021, Jordan was part of a campaign for Fender guitars, appearing alongside other musicians like Conan Gray and Lucy Dacus.
