Jodie Turner-Smith (born on September 7, 1986) is a talented British actress. She first appeared in a major movie called The Neon Demon in 2016. Since then, she has starred in many popular films like Queen & Slim (2019), After Yang (2022), and White Noise (2022).
Jodie is also well-known for her roles on TV. She was in the TNT show The Last Ship (2017) and the Syfy series Nightflyers (2018). She even played the famous Queen Anne Boleyn in the Channel 5 series Anne Boleyn (2021). More recently, she appeared in the 2024 Apple TV+ series Bad Monkey and the Star Wars show The Acolyte.

Jodie Turner-Smith's Early Life
Jodie Turner-Smith was born in Peterborough, England, on September 7, 1986. Her parents were from Jamaica. She is the only one of her brothers and sisters who was not born in Jamaica.
Jodie lived in Peterborough until she was 10 years old. After her parents divorced, she moved to the United States with her mother, brother, and half-sister. They settled in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
Jodie studied finance at the University of Pittsburgh. She finished her studies in 2008 and then worked at a bank. She has lived in Los Angeles since 2009.
Jodie Turner-Smith's Acting Career
In 2009, a friend introduced Jodie Turner-Smith to the famous musician Pharrell Williams. This happened after a N.E.R.D. concert. Jodie told him she wanted to be a writer. However, Pharrell convinced her to try modeling and move to Los Angeles.
First Roles and Early Success
Jodie started acting in 2013. Her first role was as a siren in the TV show True Blood. This led to many smaller roles in movies and music videos between 2013 and 2017. During this time, she was known as Jodie Smith. In 2016, she appeared in the music video for Zayn Malik's song "Pillowtalk."
Turner-Smith became more widely known for playing Sgt. Azima Kandie. This was in the TNT series The Last Ship from 2017 to 2018. She also had a big role as Melantha Jhirl in the 2018 Syfy/Netflix show Nightflyers.
Starring Roles and Major Projects
In June 2019, she played Josie in the Cinemax series Jett. Later that year, she starred in the movie Queen & Slim alongside Daniel Kaluuya. This film was very important for her career.
In October 2020, it was announced that Jodie would play Queen Anne Boleyn. This was for a three-part drama series on Channel 5. The show focused on the last months of Anne Boleyn's life. When she was cast, some people had strong opinions because of her race. The series came out in May 2021, and Jodie's acting received a lot of praise.
In January 2021, Jodie was cast as Éile in The Witcher: Blood Origin. This was a six-episode series that was a prequel to The Witcher. Éile was a warrior with a beautiful singing voice. However, in April 2021, Netflix announced that she had to leave the project. This was because of changes in the filming schedule.
Turner-Smith also starred in Kogonada’s science fiction drama After Yang. She acted alongside Colin Farrell in this film, which was released in March 2022. In September 2022, she joined the cast of the Star Wars Disney+ series The Acolyte.
In June 2023, it was announced that Jodie Turner-Smith would join the movie Tron: Ares. She will be acting alongside Jared Leto in this film.
Jodie Turner-Smith's Personal Life
Jodie Turner-Smith started a relationship with actor Joshua Jackson in October 2018. They got married in late 2019. Their daughter was born in April 2020. In October 2023, it was shared that Turner-Smith had filed for divorce from Jackson.
In 2019, Jodie said she wasn't sure about becoming an American citizen. However, she mentioned she would think about it.
