Jordan Reed was born in New Britain, Connecticut. He went to New London High School. In his junior year, he was a star quarterback. He threw for over 1,700 yards and 38 touchdowns. He also ran for 370 yards and eight touchdowns.
In 2007, he led his high school team to a perfect season. He was a top player, known as a "dual-threat quarterback." This means he was great at both throwing the ball and running with it. Many colleges wanted him to play for them. He chose to play for the Florida Gators.
College Career at Florida
Jordan Reed received a scholarship to play football at the University of Florida. He played for the Florida Gators from 2009 to 2012. When he first joined, he was a quarterback. He did not play in any games in 2009, which is called being "redshirted." This means he could practice with the team but save a year of playing eligibility.
After his first year, he changed his position to tight end. As a tight end, he caught 78 passes for 938 yards. He also scored six touchdowns. After the 2012 season, he decided to enter the NFL Draft. He gave up his last year of college eligibility to play professionally.

2013 Season: A Strong Start
Jordan began his NFL career with the Redskins. On September 15, 2013, he scored his first touchdown against the Green Bay Packers. He was the first Redskins rookie tight end to score a touchdown in his first two games since 2004.
Later that season, he had a great game against the Chicago Bears. He caught nine passes for 134 yards and a touchdown. This set a new team record for a rookie tight end. However, he suffered a concussion in November and missed the rest of the season. Even with injuries, he was named to the Pro Football Weekly/Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie team.
2014 Season: Dealing with Injuries
In 2014, Jordan continued to face injury challenges. He hurt his hamstring in the first game of the season. This injury kept him out for several games. He returned to play well, including a game with nine catches for 123 yards against the Indianapolis Colts. But he had another hamstring injury later in the season.
2015 Season: A Breakout Year
The 2015 season was a big one for Jordan. He scored his first touchdown of the season against the Miami Dolphins. He had a career-high 11 catches and two touchdowns against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He scored two touchdowns in a game three times that season.
Jordan had several games with over 100 receiving yards. He helped the Redskins win the NFC East division. In his first playoff game, he caught nine passes for 120 yards and a touchdown. He was ranked 77th among the top 100 players in the NFL for 2016.
2016 Season: Pro Bowl Recognition
On May 5, 2016, Jordan signed a five-year contract extension with the Redskins. He continued to play at a high level. He scored two touchdowns in a game against the Cleveland Browns. He also became the fastest tight end in NFL history to reach 200 career catches.
He suffered another concussion in October, missing two games. When he returned, he continued to make big plays. He was named to the 2017 Pro Bowl roster, which is a huge honor for NFL players. He was also ranked 65th on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2017.
2017 and 2018 Seasons: More Injuries
Jordan missed most of the 2017 season due to a hamstring injury. He played in only six games. In 2018, he had 54 catches for 558 yards and two touchdowns. However, he suffered a toe injury late in the season and was placed on injured reserve.
2019 Season: Concussion Issues
In 2019, Jordan suffered his seventh career concussion during a preseason game. This injury kept him from playing any games that season. He was still in the league's concussion protocol in early 2020. The Redskins released him shortly after.
Playing for the San Francisco 49ers
On August 9, 2020, Jordan signed a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers. In his second game with the 49ers, he caught seven passes for 50 yards and two touchdowns. He was placed on injured reserve in October with a sprained MCL (a knee ligament injury). He returned to play later that season.
