Jordan Younger, born on January 24, 1978, is a well-known figure in Canadian football. He is currently the defensive coordinator for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. This team plays in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Younger used to be a professional defensive back himself. He played for nine years in the CFL. During his playing career, he won two Grey Cup championships with the Toronto Argonauts.
College Football Journey
Younger studied political science at the University of Connecticut. While there, he also played college football for the Connecticut Huskies. He set a school record for the most career kick return touchdowns, scoring four times.
Professional Playing Career
Playing in NFL Europe
Jordan Younger started his professional career in NFL Europa. He played as a cornerback and returned kicks for Rhein Fire from 2001 to 2002. In 2003, he played for the Amsterdam Admirals. His skills were recognized, and he was named to the All-NFL Europe team in both 2002 and 2003.
Time with the Toronto Argonauts
Younger's CFL journey began with the Toronto Argonauts in 2004. In his first year, he led the team with 11 pass knockdowns. He also helped the Argonauts win a Grey Cup championship that season. He continued to play well and was named a CFL All-Star in both 2005 and 2007.
Short Stint with Edmonton Eskimos
On February 15, 2008, Younger was traded to the Edmonton Eskimos. This trade involved running back Tyler Ebell and wide receiver T. J. Acree. While playing for Edmonton, he made 53 tackles and had 1 interception. He was released by the Eskimos on January 7, 2009.
Return to Toronto Argonauts
Younger rejoined the Argonauts on January 13, 2009. He was released again on February 10, 2010, but then re-signed with the team on March 4, 2010. On November 25, 2012, Younger helped the Argonauts win the 100th Grey Cup. He was the defensive captain for the team during this championship. Two days later, on November 27, 2012, he proudly carried the Grey Cup during the Argonauts' championship parade. Younger decided to retire from playing on June 2, 2013.
Football Coaching Career
Coaching the Oakville Titans
After retiring as a player, Younger began his coaching career. In 2013, he worked as the defensive backs coach for the Oakville Titans.
Coaching Toronto Varsity Blues
In 2014, Younger continued coaching at the university level. He served as the defensive backs coach for the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. This team plays in CIS football.
Coaching the Toronto Argonauts Again
On May 18, 2015, Younger returned to the Toronto Argonauts, this time as a coach. He was named their defensive backs coach. This marked his return to the team where he had won the 100th Grey Cup as a player and defensive captain in 2012.
Coaching the Winnipeg Blue Bombers
On January 5, 2018, Jordan Younger joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as their Defensive Backs Coach. He achieved his third Grey Cup championship, and his first as a coach, when the Blue Bombers beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 107th Grey Cup game. He won his fourth championship the very next season. The Blue Bombers won again in the 108th Grey Cup victory.
On January 8, 2024, Younger received a promotion. He was named the team's defensive coordinator.
