Josep Bros i Jiménez, known as José Bros, is a famous opera singer from Catalonia, Spain. He was born in 1966. He is a tenor, which means he sings the highest male voice parts in operas. Life as an Opera Singer
José Bros was born in Barcelona, Spain. He studied music at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu. His teacher was Jaime Francisco Puig. In 1986, he won a special prize in a singing contest called the Francisco Viñas Singing Competition.
Early Career and First Performances
José Bros started his career in 1987. His first performance was in Palma de Mallorca. He sang as the tenor soloist in a famous musical work called Carmina Burana.
His first full opera performance was on November 15, 1991. He played the role of Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni in Sabadell. For the next two years, he sang in smaller theaters in Catalonia. He performed roles like the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto and Fernando in La favorita.
Big Break and International Fame
José Bros had a very important moment in his career on November 9, 1992. He was asked to sing at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. He had only 12 hours' notice! The main tenor was sick, and José Bros stepped in.
He sang the part of Riccardo Percy in the opera Anna Bolena. His performance was amazing and made a big impression. This helped him start an international career.
During the 1990s, he began performing in many major opera houses in Europe.

Later in his career, he started singing new roles. These included Alfredo in La traviata and Rodolfo in La bohème. He also sang the main role in Massenet's Werther. He first performed Werther in 2007 and again in 2017.
Spanish Music and Collaborations
José Bros has also supported zarzuelas. Zarzuela is a type of Spanish musical theater. It mixes singing and spoken parts. He has sung leading roles in popular zarzuelas like Doña Francisquita and Luisa Fernanda.
