José Delbo (born José María Del Bó; December 9, 1933 – February 5, 2024) was a talented comics artist from Argentina. He was famous for his work on popular comic books. These included Wonder Woman for DC Comics and The Transformers for Marvel Comics.

Life and Comic Book Career
José María Del Bó was born on December 9, 1933. He started his career as a professional comic artist at age 16. His first job was on the Argentine Poncho Negro series.
Moving to the United States
Because of political problems in Argentina, Delbo moved to Brazil in 1963. Two years later, he moved to the United States. His early work in the U.S. included Billy the Kid for Charlton Comics.
Drawing TV Show Comics
Delbo drew many comic books based on popular TV shows. These were for companies like Dell Comics and Western Publishing's Gold Key Comics. Some of these comics were for The Brady Bunch, Hogan's Heroes, and The Monkees. He also drew a comic book about former President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Delbo said his favorite projects included The Monkees and Lone Ranger. He also enjoyed working on a comic based on Yellow Submarine.
Working for DC Comics
Delbo's first work for DC Comics appeared in The Spectre in 1969. He became the main artist for the Wonder Woman comic book series. He drew Wonder Woman from 1976 to 1981.
Wonder Woman's Adventures
When the Wonder Woman TV show became popular, Delbo and writer Martin Pasko changed the comic. They set the comic book story during World War II, just like the TV show. Later, they changed it back to modern times. Delbo also helped bring Wonder Woman's boyfriend, Steve Trevor, back to life in the comics. A character Delbo helped create, The Lumberjack, later appeared on the Supergirl TV show. Delbo also helped introduce a new version of the Cheetah.
Other DC Comics Work
Delbo also worked on other famous DC Comics characters. He drew for Batman Family and the Jimmy Olsen stories in The Superman Family. He also drew the Batgirl feature in Detective Comics. His last big project for DC was on the Superman/Batman feature in World's Finest Comics in 1985.
Working for Marvel Comics
In 1986, Delbo started working for Marvel Comics. There, he drew comics for ThunderCats and The Transformers. He also helped create a comic series called Brute Force in 1990.
Teaching Art
Delbo shared his skills by teaching. He taught at The Kubert School from the 1990s until 2005. After moving to Florida, he taught at a "cartoon camp" for kids in Boca Raton.
José Delbo passed away in February 2024, at 90 years old.
Awards and Recognition
Delbo received an Inkpot Award in 2013. This award is given to people who have made great contributions to comics and science fiction. He received it at the San Diego Comic-Con International.
