José Guillermo Quintana (born January 24, 1989) is a professional baseball pitcher from Colombia. He has played for many teams in Major League Baseball (MLB). These teams include the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Angels, San Francisco Giants, Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals, and New York Mets.
Quintana started his career in Minor League Baseball. He played for the Mets and New York Yankees teams. He then signed with the White Sox in 2012. He made his first MLB appearance that same year. In 2016, he was chosen as an All-Star.

Early Career in the Minor Leagues (2006–2011)
José Quintana began his baseball journey by signing with the New York Mets. This was in 2006. He started playing in the Venezuelan Summer League. This league is for new players.
In 2008, Quintana joined the New York Yankees. He played in the Dominican Summer League for two years. In 2010, he moved up to play for the Charleston RiverDogs. By 2011, he was with the Tampa Yankees. That year, he had a great record of 10 wins and 2 losses. He also had a low earned run average (ERA) of 2.91.
Playing for the Chicago White Sox (2012–2017)
The Chicago White Sox signed Quintana in November 2011. They saw his talent in the minor leagues. He was sent to the Birmingham Barons first.
Quintana quickly moved up to the major leagues. He made his MLB debut on May 7, 2012. He pitched well in his first game. He got his first big league win on May 25. This was against the Cleveland Indians. In his first year, he had 6 wins and 6 losses. His ERA was 3.76.

In 2018, Quintana had 13 wins and 11 losses for the Cubs. His ERA was 4.03. He pitched in a special tie-breaker game. The Cubs decided to keep him for the 2019 season. In August 2019, he had a strong month. He had a 4–1 record with a 2.02 ERA. He finished 2019 with 13 wins and 9 losses.
In 2020, Quintana had surgery on his thumb. This was due to an accident while washing dishes. He only pitched 10 innings that season.
Moving to Other Teams (2021–2022)
In 2021, Quintana signed with the Los Angeles Angels. He had some struggles there. He was later moved to the bullpen. He then joined the San Francisco Giants in August 2021. He made five appearances for them.

Playing for the New York Mets (2023–2024)
Quintana signed a two-year contract with the New York Mets in December 2022. However, he got a rib injury during spring training. This meant he couldn't play until July 2023. He made his season debut on July 20.
In 2024, Quintana was the Mets' Opening Day starting pitcher. On September 7, he earned his 100th career win. This was against the Cincinnati Reds. He became the first pitcher from Colombia to reach this milestone. He finished the 2024 season with 10 wins and 10 losses. His ERA was 3.75. He also pitched very well in the Wild Card series against the Milwaukee Brewers. He pitched six scoreless innings.

José Quintana lives in Miami with his wife, Michel. They have two daughters. In 2024, Quintana became an American citizen.
