Josephine is in the southeastern part of Collin County. A small piece of the city also reaches into Hunt County. It is about 24 miles (39 km) northeast of Garland. It is also about 14 miles (23 km) southwest of Greenville.
The city covers a total area of about 1.877 square miles (4.861 km²). Most of this area is land, and a small part is water.
