Joshua Neville Carter (born November 20, 1986) is an American professional basketball player. He last played for PAOK, a team in Greece. Josh played college basketball for Texas A&M.

He was part of the Athletes in Action basketball team in 2006 and 2007. He helped them win the William Jones Cup in 2006. During the 2006–07 season, Josh was one of the best players in NCAA Division I. He made 50% of his three-point shots! He also holds a special record at Texas A&M. His college team won 98 games and lost only 37 while he was there. This makes him the player with the most wins in the program's history.

Early Life and High School Basketball

Josh Carter was born on November 20, 1986, in Dallas, Texas. His parents are Cedric and Kamela Carter. Josh has two older brothers who also played basketball. His brother, Warren Carter, became a professional player. His other brother, Kevin Carter, played for Texas A&M–Commerce.

Playing for Lake Highlands High School

Josh played basketball at Lake Highlands High School. In his junior year, he scored about 12 points and got 5 rebounds per game. He was named to the all-district second team.

As a senior, he was even better! He averaged 21 points, almost 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals per game. He was chosen for the all-region and All-Greater Dallas teams. He also won the Most Valuable Player award for his district. The Richardson Morning News newspaper named him the city's Player of the Year.

Choosing a College Team

Many colleges wanted Josh to play for them. These included Illinois, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, and Washington State. In the end, he decided to play for Texas A&M. He signed a National Letter of Intent to play for coach Billy Gillispie.

College Basketball Career

Josh Carter played four years of college basketball at Texas A&M. He achieved many great things during this time.

Freshman Year Highlights

Josh started playing right away in his first year. He averaged 8.3 points per game. He also made 57 three-point shots. His best game was against Texas in the 2006 Big 12 tournament. He scored 25 points in that game! His team made it to the 2006 NCAA tournament. In the postseason games, he averaged 14.3 points and made 55.5% of his three-pointers.

Sophomore Year Success

In his second year, Josh was amazing at three-point shooting. He made 50% of his three-point shots, which was the best in NCAA Division I! This set a new school record for Texas A&M. Because of his great play, he was named to the All-Big 12 Honorable Mention team.

Junior Year and NBA Draft Decision

Josh continued to play well in his junior year. He was named to the All-District 9 team by the NABC. He also made the All-Big 12 Honorable Mention team again.

On April 24, 2008, Josh thought about joining the 2008 NBA draft. However, he decided not to hire an agent. This meant he could still return to college for his senior year. On May 21, 2008, he chose to withdraw his name from the draft and play his final year at Texas A&M.

Senior Year Records

Josh started his senior year strong. He scored 23 points in the first game. In the fourth game, he broke a school record! He made his 233rd career three-pointer.

He made a game-winning three-point shot at the buzzer against Nebraska. This shot helped his team win 57–55. It also helped the Aggies get closer to the NCAA tournament. After that game, Josh scored a career-high 29 points against Iowa State.

In the last regular season game, he helped his team beat Missouri, who was ranked 12th. This win gave Josh his 97th career victory. This made him the player with the most wins in Texas A&M history! After the season, he was named to the All-Big 12 Third Team.

Josh finished his college career with 1,566 points. At that time, this was the seventh-highest score in the program's history. He also played 135 games, which is another record for Texas A&M.

Professional Basketball Journey

After college, Josh Carter began his professional basketball career. He played for many teams in different countries.

Playing in Europe

In 2009, Josh signed with EWE Baskets Oldenburg, a team in the German League. He played there for the 2009–10 season.

Next, he moved to Israel. He signed with Maccabi Ashdod B.C. from the Israeli Basketball Super League. He played for them during the 2010–11 and 2011–12 seasons.

In 2012, Josh joined BC Spartak Saint Petersburg in Russia. He signed for two seasons, 2012–13 and 2013–14. But he left the team early because of money problems. In August 2013, he signed with Montepaschi Siena, an Italian team.

Teams in Turkey and France

In the summer of 2014, Josh signed with Türk Telekom B.K. in the Turkish Basketball League. He played there for a season.

The next summer, in 2015, he signed with another Turkish team, Pınar Karşıyaka.

On June 20, 2016, Josh signed with Dinamo Basket Sassari in Italy for the 2016–17 season.

On August 13, 2017, Josh moved to France. He signed with the French club Limoges CSP.

Return to Maccabi Ashdod

On January 3, 2019, Josh Carter went back to Maccabi Ashdod B.C. in Israel. He signed with them for the rest of that season. On March 18, 2019, he had a great game. He scored 26 points and made 6 out of 8 three-point shots. His team won 95–89 against Hapoel Tel Aviv.

Josh Carter has had a long and successful career playing basketball around the world.
