José Luis Blanco Quevedo was born on June 3, 1975, in Lloret de Mar, Spain. He is a Spanish athlete who was very good at running long distances, especially a race called the 3000 metres steeplechase. This race involves running over hurdles and water jumps. José Luis won a silver medal at the European Championships in 2006. He also won a bronze medal at the 2010 European Championships, but he later lost this medal.
Blanco's Running Career
In 2006, José Luis Blanco competed in the European Championships. During the 3000 metres steeplechase race, he decided to speed up with about 500 metres left. He was leading the race with just one lap to go! In the end, another runner, Jukka Keskisalo, passed him, but Blanco still finished strong and won the silver medal.
José Luis Blanco's fastest time in the 3000 metres steeplechase is 8 minutes and 12.86 seconds. He achieved this amazing time in Huelva, Spain, in June 2006.
After winning a bronze medal at the 2010 European Championships, it was found that Blanco had used a banned substance. Because of this, he was not allowed to compete for a while. He also had to give back his bronze medal, which then went to the runner who finished fourth, Ion Luchianov.
Blanco also took part in many cross-country running races. These races are held over open, natural terrain. He competed in the World Cross Country Championships several times between 2001 and 2009. His best finish in these tough races was 27th place in 2002.
